Comprehensive, readable, up to date, packed with amazing useful information, typesetting/layout is beautiful -- I really loved this book. You probably will too!I will warn you though that you will definitely want to read at least one good introductory book about each of the following subjects: fungi, chemistry (and preferably organic chemistry), microbiology ... before you take a shot at this one.
