My wife is a rock-a-holic and a half and I thought about getting her a book about rocks for her birthday. While examining the various offerings that are out there, this one stood above the rest. A detailed description including photos was the biggest draw and you should have seen her scouring through the pages with her rock collection -- she was like a kid in a candy store! If you love collecting rocks, then you owe it to yourself to get this book.
I own a lot of Rock and Mineral books, and this is one of the best. 500 large pictures, easy to understand, teaches you how to indentify in an easy to understand format. This is one of the best teaching books for Rock Hounds.
Great book. Exactly what I was hoping it would be. My boyfriend is a "rock hound" and after each his trips he would go to my uncle who is a geologist and ask what each rock contains. Now with the pictures and descriptions in this book he now takes the BEST of his finds to my uncle and they can get together and discuss where to go next to find the "mother load".
I love the pictures in this book- very nice. What I don't like is that there's not enough information about each rock. I guess I need a set of rock encyclopedias lol. This is a great picture dictionary of sorts I think is the best way to describe it. A complete book, no since there's not enough information, pictures of the rocks in different forms, colour variations, etc... It IS great for use as a general tool for learning about the different types of rocks.Overall, pretty satisfied, and yes, I WOULD recommend this book to anyone who is interested in rocks.
This is a wonderful book but too technical for my use. If I was a geologist it would be perfect but I am a jewelry artist and just wanted to know about jewelry stones. It was the wrong choice for my purposes but still a beautifully illustrated book.
Big book, lots of beautiful color photographs. I got this for my 8 year old cousin and he absolutely loves it. Lots of information but big letters and vivid photos so it's definitely child-friendly.
I purchased this book for my nephew and was very surprised at how nice it was, much more than I was expecting. The shipping was fast and reasonable too. This is a great seller!
