Excellent pocket size guide for searching the Lake Superior region for rocks and minerals. Concise description with area map and color photos of each example. Multiple entries on Lake Superior Agates break this group up into an interesting sojourn of the Lake's shoreline. Many lesser known rocks and minerals are covered to make this a very complete guide in a smaller book size. Highly recommend this guide for both experts and beginners and the price is reasonable for the volume of information provided.

With the exceptional photos and descriptions I have easily been able to identify rocks I have gathered and used in my jewelry pieces. It is definately my prefered reference source for the Lake Superior area.

If you like to look for rocks in MN, this guide is a must. Great pictures of field specimins (unpolished) so you know what to look for... I am really happy with this book.

What an excellent book! I had no idea that each and every stone had a name - had never thought about it. (!) Although I was primarily interested in agates, which the book covered admirably, it was a surprise how interesting all of the minerals covered can be. If you've ever walked with a kid who picks up "pretty rocks" and wants to know what kind it is - this is the book for you! Although the geographical range covered is somewhat limited, my guess is that the terrific identifying information and photos will be valuable just about anywhere.I've purchased several books on rocks, minerals and beginning geology, but this book - by far - has the most useful information of any I've seen.

This is the best little rock book I have found. Every page has a picture of the rock with description of it on the opposite side. Shows both raw rock and at times polished rock so you know what it would look like. So far the best rock book I have purchased to help identify rocks with excellent pictures and details.

This book has a lot of nice color photos of all the stones you will find on the beach of Lake Superior and surrounding region. You'll see photos of stones you may have found but did not know what they were. It differentiates the different types of agates which I found useful since this is what I primarily search for. It is small enough to fit nicely in a backpack or large pocket. I highly recommend this as a field book.

This beautiful presented, and user friendly Field Guide "Rocks and Minerals" of the Lake Superior Area answers many questions that the rock and mineral collector would have. From the photography to the format, and even its size, the authors presented this guide very well. Yes it covers items such as what to look for, location, colors, size, occurrence, and more...and it would make anice gift for the rockhound in your famiy. THe book deserves a five star rating.

This guide is exactly what I was looking for. We collected many rocks while on a trip to the UP and I was able to identify all of them with this book, plus it showed me other important rocks/minerals that I overlooked. It has also helped me ID rocks that I found all the way to central Wisconsin. The pictures and explanations are perfect, I carry it with me all the time.
