This book is 70% about fossil sites and most of the mineral sites are "uncollectable". If you are and active mineral rockhound and are looking for something similar to "Rockhounding New Mexico" or "Rockhounding California", this book may not be for you. They have updated the format with higher quality pages and color pictures which I enjoyed quite a bit.

Rob Beard's first publication is a great introduction for collectors of the Middle Atlantic region. Text is interesting and easy to follow. Notes as to availability or access to location are clear and helpful. Explanations and directions are allclearly offerd to beginner and more more experienced rockhounds. A great first publication from a long time associateof Rock & Gem magazine. Books encourages rockhounds to get out and break rock.

While it is true that a lot of the sites do not allow collecting, many of them can be visited. My husband and I are enjoying the book very much. Some of the sites were not new to us, but many are. The photos and descriptions are generally well done. IAs Snowcat stated, the book is more geared toward fossil sites, and that is clear reviewing the table of contents. Fossils are our primary interest so we are very happy with the book. While it is true that some of the sites do not allow collecting, many of them can be visited. We bought the new Roadside Geology of New Jersey book at the same time. It is an excellent companion.

Haven't explored any new sites yet based in this book but will soon. Book does contain very good information on a couple site I already knew about and had been to. I would recommend this book, My intent is to plan some days put with the kids around some of the more interesting and nearby sites described in the book.

I was very interested in the explanation of geography and geology of the areas. Also it was nice to get information of other attractions near rock hunting sites.Good photos and maps.It is very readable and clearly written. Robert Ware

Used this field guide over this past weekend 5.28.15-5.31.15- it was awesome- the site as described- using a GPS, the GPS coordinates lead you to the exact spot. A lot of fun!!!

Neat read. Didnt realize it was a field journal though. Thoughr it would give more of exact locations

Honestly the best guide book I have ever bought. Got this for my son and with the directions we were finding crystals in very short time!
