Wow! This Quiet Sky is such a deeply moving, powerful story! I found myself connected to Sarah and Tucker right from the first chapter and that connection continued all the way through the book. This author has such a way with words. She tells the story from Sarah's perspective, which makes it so personal. There is such a sweetness in the way Sarah relates the tale to the reader. There are certainly very touching moments in this novella, moments that have sadness woven into them. But the overarching theme of God being in control, having his "eye on the sparrow", and having a purpose for our lives is so uplifting that I was left with a hopeful, peaceful feeling at the end of the book. There are also such sweet times of lightheartedness in this book. I definitely see the value in an education that includes Latin! If you read this story, I think you will agree!I can honestly say that this book has moved me more deeply than any other story I have read this year. These characters are staying with me! They feel real and their story is one worth telling. Do not miss the opportunity to read this book!I feel blessed to have been given an advanced copy of This Quiet Sky to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ahh! It has been WAY too long since I read a book by Joanne Bischof. How exciting to dive back into time in Rocky Knob, Virginia. This Quiet Sky tells the story of young, sixteen year old, Sarah. If you have read The Cadence of Grace series, then you should remember Lonnie's beloved Aunt Sarah. Yes, these two Sarahs are of the same person.I loved seeing the young Sarah and even her sister, Lonnie's mother, before Lonnie was born. I loved seeing how they lived and what they had been like younger. And when Sarah meets Tucker - oh my! I will just leave it at that.I cannot say enough how much I love this book - well, Joanne's writing period. The only complaint I have is that no one had told me anything about needing a box of tissues handy while reading this book. But I am warning you now that you WILL cry! Joanne Bischof is a master at writing emotion. I look forward to more by her for many years to come. She is one of my top must read authors.Highly recommended.100 plus stars well deserved!
This was a beautiful story of young love, written thoughtfully and artfully. Written in first person, I immediately became the main character, Sarah, and lived through every emotion. Having read the Cadence of Grace series, I felt a great connection to the characters in the story and the picturesque location, however, I'm sure this would have happened had I been a first-time reader. A Christian message of trusting God was woven delicately into the story and didn't feel forced. Please, please, please Joanne can you write another novella about Sarah, this time in her thirties! I would love it. I can't rate this book highly enough.
Okay, I'm not a cryer -- but this book had be in tears. It was truly lovely.I read the blurb, so I thought I could keep some distance. But Joanne Bischof is a master at pulling you into a story. I loved Sarah, she was so authentic. And how could I not care for Tucker? He was brave and smart and fun. The way their story played out - and the lessons that they learned - will stay with me for a long time. This book beautifully illustrated the truths that God cares for each of us and He never stops giving, no matter the circumstances. But so often we don't see the gifts until we shift our perspective.I can't recommend this novella strongly enough. But be sure you're near a box of tissue. You'll need them.
Joanne Bischof writes the most amazing books! This little novella is one of the most precious I have ever read. The reader meets Sarah in Bischof's 'Cadence of Grace' series. Sarah is Lonnie's aunt and lives alone. With this book, the reader understands why Sarah has chosen this type of life.Sarah has just moved to Rocky Knob and is seated beside a boy in school who everyone says is dying. No one really wants to be around him, but Sarah soon discovers that Tucker is a very nice young man. He is picked by their teacher to tutor Sarah in algebra, and Sarah soon learns there is a great depth to this boy Tucker.I won't give anything else away. This little novella moved me so much, by the time I was finished, tears were streaming down my face. It was incredibly and deeply moving and poignant. There is also a wonderful spiritual lesson here. This reader intends to apply it to her life.Do yourself a favor and read this book. You won't regret it. Not for a moment.
This book will impact you. With her signature grace and heartwarming style, Joanne has crafted yet another unforgettable story: this time it may not end the way you expect.Going in, I knew how things might play out, so I was prepared to cry. Little did I know how joyful the end of the book would leave me. Not only because the ending left some unexpected hope to be had, but because the entire story was just that: one of hope.Sarah is relatable, shy, not great at math. But Tucker is, so he becomes her tutor--and a dear friend. Then, more.In that sweet way Joanne is so good at, she spins their love story with tact and great spirit. And the tragedy feels less like tragedy and more like a longing fulfilled. It's hard to explain, really. You just need to read it.And be prepared to not only cry but see great joy.
