If you have chainsaw, or saws, in need of repair; this book delivers the tech specs that others do not. It's not for the casual do it yourselfer however, you need to have some kind of repair knowledge to make sense out of this one. But even for the casual fixer-upper, it deleivers a wealth of knowledge. It does a very good job of giving the technician little gems about the specific manner a machine is put together and how to take it apart. It's particularly great for older saws- but bear in mind it considers my '86 Homelite an 'antique'. If you got a chainsaw and usually fix it yourself, this one's for you. The book covers 28 different chainsaw manufacturers and countless model#'s. Filled with exploded views of internal components and chasis attatchements, it's got just about everything a techniclly inclined individual could want.

Not necessarily the ideal book for a beginner. But if you have an old chainsaw you picked up at a garage sale (as I did), and know some basics about small engines (what a spark plug is, etc.), this is exactly what you need. Provides specs, tuneup instructions, and other maintenance/repair items. Good basic chainsaw information is provided, as well. But the real value is on the details about the various models.

This book is ideal for a person with mechanical knowledge. It contains chain saws of many make and models. Even someI never heard of. However most equipment you buy now daysdo not give any adjustment of any kind to keep your machinerunning great. Once you get this book, find the model thatmatches yours. Read the information on it. It well explainsadjustments as well as the break down and parts. This is not for just a novist. You do need to understandthe workings of mechanics. That said, it is a fantastic book.

Premise: In high school (1968) we tore down and rebuilt small engines like chainsaws, so I have very old basic understanding. This manual is pretty technical and WOULD NOT recommend for someone who's never tore down a machine. For Specific info / data it covers that, but it's copyright is the 10th edition in 1999 (re-cw 2002, 2004, not sure It was actually revised?). One think I didn't like is it DOES NOT cover any of my 2006 Craftsman chain saws (SEARS says many people make their chainsaws, mine is actually made by Poulan). Here's the list of ETH 30 manufactures it does cover (1998 or older): Allis-Chalmers, Alpina, Castor, Clinton, Danarm, John Deere, Dolmar, Echo, Frontier, Green Machine, Homelite, Husqvarna, Jonsered, Lombard, Makita, Massey-Ferguson, McCulloch, Olympyk, Partner, Pioneer, Pioneer / Partner, Poulan, ProKut, RedMax, Remington, Roper, Shindaliwa, Solo, Stihl, and Tanaka. 30 OF THE 1998 or older brands. Other things I complement: explains about chains, designs, and sharpening reasons in the intro: SAW CHAIN, BAR, SPROCKET, AND CLUTCH SERVICE, OFF SEASON STORAGE, CARBURATOR SERVICE, ENGINE SERVICE TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE, AND GENERAL SERVICE, and an Obsolete Parts Buyers Guide. Total pages 612 and has extensive parts in exploded assembly diagrams with labels. No 5 star because of the 1998 printing ... if this was 2015-16 updated 5 stars and or higher if able.

Unfortunately I seem to have missed the part about this book only covering chainsaws made through 1998(!!) If you have a chainsaw made in the last 10 years this book isn't for you.

The publication is exactly what I needed. Neither of my saw manufacturers makes a service manual available, and this publication covers them both -- carburetion, CD ignition air gap, plug gap -- right down to the bolt torque requirements, which are extremely critical with die cast parts and housings.

This manual is surprisingly complete and covers even rather obscure models of older chainsaws in sufficient detail to work on them at the advanced owner level. I have several older chainsaws, some of which are discontinued models and some for which the company has quit manufacturing chainsaws altogether and this manual covers all of them.

It would be nice if someone that has bought this book would make a complete list of the brands and models covered, here in the reviews.Because the details section of the listing appears to be of limited length and cuts off at Homelite.I can hardly believe there's nothing on Husqvarna, John Deere, Jonsered, McCulloch, Pioneer, Poulan, Remington, Sachs, or Stihl (and I'm sure there are more beyond 'Ho...' that I don't remember) in this manual. Thanks!
