This book has everthing that you need to get started into a aquaculture setup for your home. It explains the setup of your system and gives you the knowledge maintain it. They also show you how to build every thing from the bilogical filter to the clarifiers. large amount of information presented in an easy to read format.
This book helped us get started in aquaculture. It provides clear easy instructions on how to start-up a working system and has clear, easy to understand diagrams and a list of comprehensive parts. However, if you are looking for a book on backyard aquaponics, the scale of this book might be too large for you - this book deals with 'small scale commercial' aquaculture, "Aquaponic Gardening" by Bernstein may be more your style if you are just getting your feet wet in greenhouse aquaponics. A valuable and practical read.
This book and author got me started on an adventure in the world of recirculating aquaculture systems. The recirculating aquaculture system in the book gave me valuable hands on experience to move on to tinkering with other DIY components and systems. The book is not only full of outstanding information, the information is conveyed so well it's easy to understand. But it's not just exclusive to RAS' as it covers flow through, cages, aquaponics, etc.I feel this book is worth more than many publications out there that sell for 10 or 20 times its price. There's nothing like this out there as far as I'm concerned.Steve did all small scale aquaculture enthusiasts a big favor when he produced this book. I share it and recommend it to anyone I can.Cecil Baird - President Indiana Aquaculture AssociationBaird Fish Taxidermy & Fish FarmLigonier, Indiana
The review written in 1999 is accurate and I won't make comments along the same lines as it does so sufficiently. However, an alternative to building a system is buying a system. They ain't cheap so the book is the better buy. However, one should know that systems are out there offered by people like Aquatic Eco Systems (their Fish Farm series) and Crop King.
If you're looking for a good book to help you understand everything you need to get started raising fish at home this is a good book to read. If you are like me and enjoy reading about such things you will enjoy the details this book provides. Happy fish rearing!
Great book for aquponic entusiast even though, this book will be more helpfull for somebody who has some land and will make a bigger system than a kind of basement or small house system. There is a lot of usefull information in this book, so i think this book is also a good investement of your money.
Certainly dated but handy for the backyard enthusiast. It could do with a full review and new edition to bring it up to speed with newer technologies, even the DIY gear. Easy to read and useful for the home grower
By small scale, they mean small scale commercial fish farm. Not for the backyard DIY. But, it is packed full of useful information. It's just not for the beginner. It is written for people that already have a working knowledge of the terms and concepts of aquaculture.
