This is one of the best Econ books I ever had to use during my undergraduate career. The book is so well written I basically taught the class material to myself! It also has excellent examples and the formatting of the text is spaced out enough with colors and photos that you don't want to kill yourself for having to read the whole book.
If you have even a faint interest in markets and banking, this book will definitely increase your enjoyment. While it is academic in nature, the mix of text with real-life case studies helps make reading much more lucid. For me, every case study is extremely well written and quick to digest. It also revealed a bunch of misnomers I may have had concerning the financial crisis. There's also the occasional humor tied in--not that the author is intending to make a joke. From page 152, and the case study:"In 2006, an AIG report to government regulators said the likelihood of losses on CDSs was "remote, even in severe recessionary market scenarios.""This view was refuted spectacularly over the next two years."I don't know that the author meant to be sarcastic, or even a bit snide, but it does at least lighten the mood.Overall though, I will probably read this book twice before the class is over. It really does "trap" me in. Sure, it gets a bit dense (What good book doesn't), but the examples try their best to make it much easier to understand while being brief.I would love to know of more books written in similar fashion.
I used this book for an economics course this summer and I have to say that it is an excellent book. It was easy to ready and had a lot of case studies to help the reader understand real life situations. If you care to know more about the most recent financial crisis or how financial markets operate this is the book to read.
If it is possible for me to give rating of less than one star, that is what I could have given to show how much I am dissatisfied with everything to do this order. My dissatisfaction is nothing to do with this item, but the entire experience i went through ordering this item and getting to have the item delivered.
This book is the easiest to understand textbook I've had to read in my college career. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about money systems in general.
wish I bought it, not rented. It's really interesting and useful.
Not as advertised. Said 3rd edition, I got second edition
I learn so much from this book. The is well wrtten.
