I like these workbooks. They have a simple format and are easy to understand. They come with the answers and are easy to correct. They come in many different subjects.I would like more in the upper grade levels.

I am an educator with a Ph.D. in math education. I run a learning center and am currently working with a homeschool middle school student as one of my clients. I suggested this book for him as our workbook. Overall, it is a good book to practice the basics of computational mathematics. If you are looking for something that builds conceptual mathematics or aligns with the Common Core, you will need to look elsewhere. However, I feel that having a strong background in the basics is important in addition to building conceptual understanding and problem solving and this book delivers on that account. The beginning of the book reviews what I would consider to be 5th grade material, adding, subtraction, multiplying, dividing with whole numbers, fractions, and mixed numbers. They don't give enough of the harder problems which is a flaw in the book. For example, when subtracting mixed numbers - there are two approaches based on if the first fraction is smaller or larger than the second fraction, this book only has one practice problem for the harder case. Students need more practice for the harder problems (where they need to borrow from the whole number) in order for them to remember the process. I like that some of the word problems are two step problems. Many of these books just give one step problems but this book has lots of 2 step word problems. The later topics are good middle school topics although for most 8th graders, the overall expectations exceed what is taught in this book. I suggest this book for a middle school student (6th-7th) for practice and review and if used as a homeschool book, realize that additional topics that are more challenging as well as more problem solving and conceptual understanding need to be added for the student to be successful at an 8th grade level.

I brought this so my son can practice during summer and be ready for 8th grade. However, the questions were simple and he was able to breeze through the book. It would have helped if the questions were challenging and were at par with 8th grade standards.

There are far too many incorrect answers in the back of the book and, in at least once case, misnumbered problems that don't match up with the back of the book. Frustrating, particularly when trying to figure out why something was "wrong" that really wasn't. I'm tempted to write McGraw-Hill, but it's easier to just not buy any more of its workbooks.

Ordered McGraw-Hll's Math Grade 6 last year and looked forward to using Math Grade 7 this year. Another reviewer mentioned this book wasn't really 7th grade math. That reviewer is correct. This book is exactly the same as Math Grade 6 - even the table of contents are identical. Bizarre to say the least!

Similar to my review of their 6th and 7th Grade Workbook this is NOT Grade level material. Mean, median mode? Area of solid figures? That is 5th grade material. Ratios is 6th. There are only a few pages of material that I would consider appropriate for even 7th grade. Students should be proficient with most of this material by the end of 5th grade and the rest by the middle of 7th.

The lessons are planned out according to skill and includes a test after each unit. Great for homeschool! I will be buying more mcGraw-Hill's book in the future.

Our daughter's school recommended this for a robust summer Programme. We used a tutor, and she was impressed with the book as well. Whether for prep or review, I highly recommend it! BTW-our daughter does too!
