As a reader of the entire series of Jenny Cote's books, I have eagerly read each book in her Amazing Tales of Max & Liz series. Both books made me cry, laugh out loud, and experience the animals' journeys as if I was really there with them. The eagerness I felt when Mrs. Cote came out with her new series, Epic Order of the Seven, was met by disappointment. By the time I finished this book, I was getting somewhat annoyed with how each story in her new series was. Let me tell you why: First, too boring. Most reviews will tell you opposite, but the reason I thought these books were somewhat boring was because of the story plot. While the first two books she came out with were filled with humor, tragedy, and unexpected twists, the three books in her new series are predictable, without any kind of strong adversary, and lack any of the sweaty nervousness that is felt with The Ark and The Dreamer. Also, it seems like all the animals do is just watch the events unfold before them, instead of trying to do any harrowing jobs or dangerous assignments. I always get annoyed when the new character Claire keeps changing into different people and spoiling the excitement by blatantly telling what's going to happen to this person, or with that situation. Although I admire Jenny Cote's attempt to follow the events of Paul and Peter, Mrs. Cote follows the people so much that the book can drag out and get boring. I thought this was about the Epic Order of the Seven trying to fulfill the events, not trying to watch as the events unfold! Finally, about the adversary. Basically, there is little scenes if any of the bad guys. Whenever they try to stop the animals' plans, they always, always fail.
