The Cat in the Hat Game is a treat for children and a great tool for parents. For children who-- like my five-year-old-- have a familiarity with the characters, it provides a chance to be actors in a world that they know. It's a springboard for imaginative play. For all children it provides a bright-colored, tactile table-top playground that's great to have around when it's too wet to go out and too cold to play ball. I think the game can enhance kids' memory skills, reading and math skills, and cooperation (taking turns). It also lets them see that all these Useful skills are really just ways to have fun. Younger kids who haven't yet got the hang of all that stuff can still enjoy playing with the game pieces (which are little card-board cut-outs of Sally, Dick and the Things,) spinning the spinner, or naming the numbers, letters and colors. They can always grow into the rest. (We got the Green Eggs and Ham Game a year ago and it's been exciting to see my daughter's approach to it change as she picks up on new aspects of it.) If you're looking for ways to pass the time indoors, The Cat in the Hat Game is a resource and a hoot.
