If I Should Die Before I Wake by Han Nolan, is an EXCELLENT book with a slight twist on the usual Holocaust-related fictional novel, or true-life memoir. Like Jane Yolen's novel The Devil's Arithmetic, THIS novel is also about a girl in the present-day, being transported back in time to the Nazi era, to experience the persecution, and slaughter as a Jewish girl during that genocide.However, UNLIKE Jane Yolen's novel, in which, if I recall correctly (but vaguely [since it has been years since I've read the book] yet remember far more clearly from the movie The Devil's Arithmetic) the main character was a modern-day Jewish girl who was just apathetic about her heritage, culture & family's experiences in the Holocaust, in THIS novel, the main character is actually a staunch Neo-Nazi, who goes back in time to 1930s-40s Europe as a Jewish girl to endure (and more importantly open her eyes/mind to!) the suffering of Jews & others.From the blurb on the back of the book:Sixteen-year-old Hilary Burke hates Jews.
