4 StarsLADY THIEF was a thrilling follow-up to the Robin Hood retelling that swept us into a world of danger, mystery, political intrigue, an evil prince threatening to bring their kingdom and people to ruins, and heroic acts determined to bring Nottingham to it's rightful place of peace, security and prosperity!!LADY THIEF was filled with such shocking surprises for me. I mean, I was literally SHOCKED at the direction that it took. But nevertheless I LOVED the way it turned out. But honestly, I don't know why I didn't see it all coming, because once it was all laid out on the table, it all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle with all the right pieces. But one thing I was a little taken aback by was the drastic change in Scarlet's personality. Though at the same time, I knew she had to do and act the way she did in order to survive the situation that she found herself in. But what I didn't care for was Rob's situation with the disturbing dreams he was having. It was a little too much and it went a little overboard, and really felt meaningless. I would of liked to see Rob go through the motions of his pain and working through his demons, but just in a little less dramatic way. It just didn't fit well with his character and not the way you would think to see Rob acting, even if he was enduring something like that. It just felt out of the boundaries of his character traits, and by the end of the book it got to be a little annoying...THE PLOTScarlet's world rages fire when her buried secrets are finally discovered and revealed to all of Nottingham. She's desperately tried for years to keep her true identify a secret from everyone, even the band of boys that have become her new-found family.

An electronic copy was provided to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This and other reviews found on my site, My Friends Are FictionThe Story: If felt that Gaughen really upped the stakes in this installment. Now that Scarlet’s identity has been revealed she is not able to hide under the guise she’d created. This book is full of heartbreak and Lord Gisbourne really shows what he’s made of and becomes much more terrifying than he was in the first book.Once again the writing is fast paced and the action scenes are vivid and easy to visualize. The common language that was used in the first book is present but not used as often because Scarlet is surrounded by nobles this time. The one thing that really stood out to me in reading this book was the amount of emotions I felt. I went from heartbreak to anger within a few pages. It really did a lot to my feelings and left me feeling exhausted by the journey. The Characters: In Lady Thief we get to see a side of Scarlet largely absent from the first book–her noble side. We get a fuller understanding of what her life was like prior to her betrothal to Gisbourne. She has also had a few of her barriers drop and her emotions are easier to see.The romance was heartbreaking as well as frustrating for me. A lot of Scarlet and Robin’s reasoning (mostly based on their honor and what was appropriate with one another) was hard for me to understand. Though the romance was incredibly heart breaking and written well I had a harder time connecting, to be honest.Robin was a changed man based on the torture he endured. I loved that Guaghen didn’t gloss over the consequences of living through that type of ordeal.

They might have won the battle against the sheriff of Nottingham, but now Scarlet and her friends must prepare for war, because royalty is coming into town. Prince John and the Queen mother will be present to appoint a new sheriff. Scarlet knows that if she ever hopes to bring peace to the people the position must go to Robin. Lucky for them, the opportunity comes in the form of a tournament. But Gisbourne has also returned with an offer that Scarlet can’t refuse; the chance to get her marriage annulled.Lady Thief sweeps you into another adventure with Scarlet, Robin Hood, and their friends as they set out to win the tournament against all odds. Jousting, sword fights, an archery contest, all entangled with a blazing romance. There is no question now as to how much Scarlet and Rob love each other, and I was pleasantly surprised that the love triangle element was completely dismantled in this book. Sadly, the couple doesn't have an easy time about it. After being tortured at the hands of Gisbourne in the last book, Rob is dealing with some serious PTSD—nightmares that have him waking up in the middle of the night and reacting violently. Scarlet refuses to leave his side, even when Rob unconsciously beats her. But the other kids, especially John, are wary and counsel Scarlet away. Regardless of her wishes, she still has to part from Rob to fulfill her end of the deal with Gisbourne. When Scarlet returns to the castle, she is as tough as ever, ready to challenge authority to save the people of Nottinghamshire. But I think that some of her cleverness in planning and being smart with her moves went right out the window. She didn’t think things through, and that got her into a lot of trouble. I believe at one point I screamed, “Use yer head!
