If your child loves monkeys, zoos, animals or science, they should enjoy this book. It is full of facts about monkeys. It devotes a couple of pages, and lots of drawings, on topics such as: what are monkeys, is a monkey my uncle?, little and big monkeys, social life of monkeys, weird and wonderful monkeys, how smart are monkeys, monkey mythology and deforestestation. You will learn why they like to steal - a bunch were stealing sunglasses off visitors at the zoo as they liked to see themselves in the lenses. You will learn how and why they play tricks on each other. This is an entertaining book even adults will enjoy.Good for mature kindergarten through about 3rd or 4th grade. As a former K-8 teacher and principal, I like to insert more non-fiction that is interesting into children's reading diet so they get accustomed to reading and enjoying science and history which are as interesting as fiction. This book does that. A teacher could read it to her class over several days and have a unit on monkeys. This book would be a welcome addition to any library: classroom or home.
Enjoy! This fun-to-read illustrated book artfully organizes a large quantity of visual and written information about monkeys. I appreciate the smart use of design tools to lay out and organize dense information in a way that can be easily read.I bought one of these for my son, read it, then sent another to my nephew for his birthday.
Mad About Monkeys is a 40 page chapter book that is heavily illustrated. The chapters are only two pages each, but it still qualifies as a chapter book. The book begins by talking about what monkeys are and evolution. The next chapter talks about the differences between Old World and New World monkeys. Other chapters talk about differences between large and small monkeys, their social life, and what monkeys are best at certain things, i.e., speed and intelligence. One of the closing chapters discusses monkey mythology, including their importance in the Hindu religion and Chinese zodiac. The final chapter discusses deforestation and the impact it is having on the monkeys of the world. Overall, I found this book to be very informative. It contained a nice mixture of useful knowledge and fun facts. However, the star of this book were the illustrations. Owen Davey does a remarkable job making the many different species of monkeys come alive on the pages. The only complaint I have about the book is the matter of fact statement that humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor. This is scientific speculation at best, as it has never been proven. For that reason, I deducted a star from my review. If you end up buying this book and liking it, be sure to check out Davey's next book Smart About Sharks.
This book is beautifully illustrated and very educational. It would be better suited for older kids or adults who love monkeys, but I'm sure that younger kids would like the pictures and enjoy hearing about the different types of monkeys as well.
The best book about monkeys I have read. So many interesting and fun facts about monkeys and how to distinguish them.Exceptional picture book with exquisite illustrations and fantastic facts and story.Written and illustrated by Owen Davey. Published by Flying eye Books.#monkeys #about #facts #fun
I love this book! Not only is it well organized and highly informative, but the illustrations are simply stunning. I bought two for Christmas presents and plan to buy another for myself.
The illustrations in this book are stunning and as informative as photographs. Likewise, the text is engaging BUT what has happened to noun/pronoun number agreement? Sentences such as, "If this leader has a dishonest streak ..., they will tell their fellow monkeys" makes the English teacher in me cringe. This is a common grammatical sidestep in the book and, while it avoids the problem of gender pronouns, it also creates a book rife with grammatical speed bumps. Alas, it will have to be returned.
This book is so beautiful! The illustrations are amazing, as well as the texts and information is so accurate. I bought two, one for me and another as a gift! Loved it
