First, this is a great book. It is well written and easy to read. Rhea Paul is just fantastic. My only negative about this book (and it is a big one) is that the Kindle edition is terrible. It uses location, not page numbers. The table of contents is vague (only gives the chapter, not the points within each chapter), meaning if you are looking for something, you have to start at the chapter and scroll through it to find what you want. I buy the kindle editions of books whenever I can because I like the speed at which I can find things. For this book, I had to buy the book edition as well. This was a waste of money. DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE EDITION.

I am disappointed in this text. First, it weighs a ton and is very awkward to hold for any length of time. Second, although Rhea Paul is obviously very knowledgable about her field, the material is not edited well. There is too much information presented in too broad a format. The book reads more like a survey of the literature rather than as a guide for beginning SLP students. Also, there are 76 pages of references but no glossary!

I bought this book for a class and for the first semester we were just reading entire chapters so I thought the e-book was great. Fast forward to this semester and the instructor is assigning specific page numbers. The e-book does NOT align with page numbers, instead it gives "loc" numbers, which don't stay consistent either (So don't bother trying to match it up with a hardcopy) When I try to search for topics and you have the page open, it doesn't not tell you what chapter you are in the book. Which can make having any concept of where you are in the book very difficult.Rhea Paul is an incredible clinician and it's a shame this e-book makes it incredibly difficult and frustrating to learn the information she is presenting.Content: 4 starsE-book: 1 star.

This book is very difficult to navigate and reads like an unedited encyclopedia. Sure, it has a lot of facts but what good when you can't find them?

The content in this book is good however the Kindle version does not have any page numbers, which makes it extremely hard for me to do assigned readings for my class. I have a long commute so I figured that the Kindle version would make it easier for me to get some reading done while on the train, without having to carry around a heavy book. I am going to have to ask someone in my class to show me there book to help guide me. Do not get the Kindle version of this book if you need to see the actual page numbers! Very frustrating!

I'm a huge fan of Dr. Rhea Paul and she continues to produce the best textbook for clinicians and language specialists, of all levels, for assessing and treating children of all ages and adolescents with speech language delays/disorders.Speech really means enunciation (more specific than language and this textbook is really for language learning issues) and language development encompasses a broader territory: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The most common type of learning disability is a language based learning disability and many young children with speech delays, are actually language delayed- easily misconstrued. Connecting language delay and later language based learning difficulties is critical, however it doesn't get the attention it deserves. If you are a professional who works with individuals with developmental language difficulties (any age) and would like to keep abreast of the emerging field of language pathology, particularly with its connection to literacy, this textbook is a must for your professional library. Thanks Dr. Paul!-CraigM.S. This book is packed with information, but it's organised so poorly as to seriously diminish its usefulness. It's as if the authors wrote down everything they wanted to say and then found themselves too exhausted to go over it all again and arrange it properly. One example of what I mean is that, occasionally, two headings will be formatted the same, giving the impression that what's written under them are different things that are in some way equal in the hierarchy of information the authors are setting up. But once you read on, you realise that the second section is actually more like a subsection of the first. Sometimes the same thing happens in reverse, with separate things being presented as if they were more connected than they are. It's bad enough in the moment, but the real problem is that it undermines your faith in all the categories the book appears to be establishing in a general way. When you've never heard of something before, and you don't understand it yet, you want to be able to rely on your textbook to communicate what the relationships between that thing and various other things actually are. Now, I have the Kindle edition of this book, so it's possible that that particular criticism doesn't apply to the print version. Even so, I find the text rather unfocused and jumbled up in general, and full of subtly shifting definitions and facts turning up three paragraphs past the other facts they're related to (as if the text were being talked through or handwritten, and it were somehow impossible to go back and insert things exactly where they ought to be). Too much of what is rightly the authors' job - that is, the work of making what they're saying make sense - is left to their readers. In terms of content, this book is really a very, very good resource. It would be wonderful if newer editions were used to add clarity and organisation, and not just information.
