Perfect book for every health profession involved in movement disorders...Simple, clear and exhaustive at the same time.compared to the previous edition this version widely enrich the subject with the most frequent pathologies explained through a biomechanical approach. Hardcover, full-colored good paper quality for a reasonable price but the quality of printing should have been better (several pages have a "blur effect" while others are perfect).anyway a great book!!
Neumann, the author, did a wonderful job putting together a "student-friendly" textbook for those interested in rehabilitation and kinesiology. I purchased this book for a graduate course. Though I didn't have a background in kinesiology, and this was my first introduction to the subject, I was able to follow the material. The understanding that I gained through this textbook and other study aids helped me to perform very well in my class. The book is easy to read, well illustrated and provides clinical applications. Purchase this book. You will not be disappointed.
This book is great for students learning biomechanics, it explains all the joints in the body and the muscles that act on them and how they are acting with each movement, it also states the biomechanics laws. Great for people with very little knowledge that want to understand the basics!
Neumann's book is a highly worthy purchase. He clarifies many complex topics without over-simplifying any of the material and makes the subject very interesting. This books contains clinical connections which are beneficial to those studying Physical Therapy. I bought this book for a graduate class and will never return it. Everyone in my class cherishes the book and reads it thoroughly (the only textbook we all read thoroughly!)
The best physiology text I've read to date. Dr. Neumann does a magnificent job explaining complex processes and makes for a very interesting read. The book is also filled with color images, which adds several dimensions to understanding.
I found this book very helpful in understanding the mechanics of movement. The illustrations are excellent and helped me visualize what the text was saying. The subject matter is challenging, but I found it stimulating. It was an excellent text for my pathokinesiology course. I highly recommend it!
Great for clarifying key points of kinesiology. This text is a wonderful supplement to class time. It's not easy to write a text that visual/kinesthetic learners like myself can understand, but the author's have done it. A great purchase.
As my first exposure to kinesiology, this book accommodated both my nascence to the subject AND my desire to learn it all in detail. Each chapter begins with an overview of relevant anatomy, and then proceeds to describe them in terms of specific and global function. This editorial style has the benefit of making it easier to remember and understand origins/insertions/functions when compared to the conventional anatomy reference. For example, Thieme's atlas might state that the lumbricals "flex the MCP joints and extend the DIP/PIP joints," without clarifying how exactly that occurs. The hand chapter of this text fully addresses the difficulty of envisioning the mechanics behind this seemingly paradoxical function. The "clinical" offshoots present examples of kinesiology in a rehabilitative context, which are oodles of fun for aspiring rehab specialists. The end of each section provides an appendix for innervations, dermatomes, and the specific origins/insertions for each muscle.Forewarning: The last chapter "The Kinesio of Walking" describes the specific nuances of your foot, ankle, knee, and hip in each instance of the gait cycle, and is a dread to get through. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself if you lightly skimmed over it to avoid the monotony.
