I ordered this because I am thinking about applying for a telecommuting job as a work at home nurse. Even though I have been a nurse practitioner for 10 years I have picked up some new information from reviewing this book. I would recommend it for nurse practitioner students.
As a pediatric telephone advice nurse, I ordered the current edition to stay up to date. I like the alphabetical listing layout, quick and easy to find index, and clear guidelines. This book has more information yet is more portable than the older edition also. A valuable resource.
This is the book that my office uses, so as a Triage Nurse it is fantastic. My office has several, however I prefer to have my own so I can high lite in it. I love it because it helps with asking the correct questions and the rationel as well as the rule outs. I am going to have mine three hole punched so I can add things. I triage with more confidence then ever.
As a pediatrics resident taking "mommy call" at night and on the weekends, there are sometimes questions that can seeming stump even the most proficient clinician. In those cases, I found that having this as a resource was a great advantage. It walks you through the most common concerns that parents might call about and helps you triage them accordingly. It's 3 am.... do I really need to send this family to the Emergency Department, or call I schedule them in clinic in the morning? Home phone call shift are no longer a daunting task and I feel much more confident in the advice I am offering with this on hand!
This is an excellent book. Physicians reviewed before giving to the nursing staff. They were very impressed with the advise offered in the bood as well a the ease in which to look up illnesses.
i use this at my pediatric office for phone triaging. it has clear concise plans to help guide you with the issue as you discuss a plan with the parent. it covers nearly every topic: rashes, vacccines, fevers...
Use this for work and am still getting used to the different format. I have used Barton Schmitt for years.
Just what I was looking for. Price was right, The condition of the product exceeded it's description. Great for any nurse doing triage and helpful for parents as well- will save calls & unnecessary trips to doctors office.
