The book content is fine, but there's a great deal of it. I thought I was doing myself a favor to get the Kindle version (cheaper and far more portable) BUT(!) the page size exceeds the capacity of the Kindle page and cannot be readjusted to fit. This means you need to move the page around in order to read it and it is difficult with the layout of the pages, side bars, pictures etc. I ended up purchasing a paper copy just so I could actually read it. I do NOT RECOMMEND the KINDLE VERSION.
There were no transition courses offered in my area for moving from the EMT-I 85 to the AEMT. I purchased this book, read it, and passed my written exam on the first try.It is a bit dry and repetitive at times, but I cannot complain about the results.
I paid for a new book but the book was damaged in several spots quite a bit.(corners and both top and bottom edge) I bought the code card to go with the book, and spend over an hour on the line with tech support only to get a fourteen day pass. Now the fourteen days are up, and I have to way to use the code that I spent the money on and not looking forward to spending another hour on the phone,
Someone needed to run this through a few more edits before releasing it to the public, a few of the issues:Much of the information is wrong and often supplies contradicting informationGrammatical errors throughout/Poorly written/difficult to comprehend and understandImportant terms are highlighted but not definedThe text book and workbook do not agree. The workbook does not provide any additional understanding of key concepts and principals. Instead it typically relies on silly crossword puzzles asking to define vague terms that may or may not have been coveredQuizzes and Tests online ask questions not covered in the books. Many quizzes have questions that are asked that are not covered in the text or work book. Often, quiz answers are wrong or questions are vague that paramedics I work with are unable to decipher or answer the questions correctly. All in all, this is an extremely poor text book that does little to prepare students for the NREMT. It seems like the text was meshed together from previous I-85 and I-99 standards and was not given a good quality control check before being released. I have strongly urged my program to move away from this book for future classes.
The book is poorly written, and the formula that it provides to calculate MAP was incorrect. It doesn't flow well, and ideas that are worth repeating are done so way too close together. It's no real surprise that most places have done away with AEMT as a prerequisite for Paramedic. It barely provides knowledge past a proper Basic EMT program. IV's, IO's, a few medications, and an intro into Acid/Base pretty much sums up the new material.
So far it is on the same quality as the basic book. As a matter of fact, the first chapters do not introduce anything new. Hard to redo a beaten subject but its the curriculum.
I purchased this book brand new and they sent me a book with no Student Access Code Card and expect me to pay for the shipping to return the product so that they can send a completely different book when it would cost me more to do that than to just purchase the access directly through the manufacturer of the book for a product that should have come with the book.
The book is not an easy read. Several errors in the book. I would recommend looking around and making sure that it is the right one before buying.
