This is the only TExES exam book I've seen available and after going through it, I certainly hope alternatives are published. My biggest gripe about the book is the format. Instead of having the test and answer sections separate, the answers are printed directly below the answers. This requires that you continually try to cover up the answer before moving on to the next question, otherwise the answer is immediately visible before you even get a chance to look at all of the choices. Perhaps I just have really strong periphery vision, but it was really aggravating.I also paid for 2 day delivery, but that didn't happen. I don't know if is responsible for that or UPS, but I certainly wish I wouldn't have paid the extra for the shipping.
The "sample questions" were poorly written. Art terms and names of artists were misspelled. What really irks me is that some answers were flat-out WRONG! I went through and covered all the answers with sticky notes since they are presented immediately following each question. I checked it out of the library so no money was wasted. Even though the book had bad reviews, I thought it may prompt me on areas I needed to further research, so I used it as such...googling unfamiliar topics and wrong answers. So, I think it was fairly effective in bringing to my attention areas I may not have thought to study. After finding so many mistakes, I didn't trust that the book's answers were correct. I recommend going through the art quizzes on about.com. They were fun, informative, and free! I wouldn't pay money for ANYTHING published by XAMonline or Sharon Wynne.
I bought this to study for my TeXes PACT test and none of the questions they had were on the test. Luckily, I was able to still pass my test because of my art no-how. I highly suggest just reviewing every subject area in art to study for the exam.. the basics anyway. I was tested on a variety of subjects including but not limited to architecture, art history, sculpture, ceramics, painting, illustration, graphic design, printmaking, etc. Study the basics, the vocabulary, and you will do well. This book was unreliable. I gave my copy to goodwill.
I figured I would buy this book since I was taking the ART EC-12 exam. None of the information that was in this study guide was covered on the test. I actually ended up using the free study guide and researching the competencies on the internet. I took my test today so hopefully I did well. They definitely need to come up with a appropriate art study guide that will cover the competencies on the exam. So for those of you that are taking the ART EC-12, do not buy this book it will not help!!
I ordered this review hoping to get some insight into the types of questions I would be asked on the Art Certification test. This book was not even close to the test. I read a couple of unfavorable reviews about the book and decided not to use it. I am very glad I did not read it before hand. It would have just confused me. I went over it after the test and it would not have helped me to study for the test. this test is by far the worst thing one can use. the fact that these questions are on the real test is crazy; most of the questions are opinions, useless knowledge , or random art history trivia that 90 percent of the time a teacher would never use.
This was a total waste of money. It did not prepare me for the exam, I was better off reviewing survey art history books.
Includes a few pages on study tips. Questions are broken down by competency. Accurately covers all material as noted on the Texas SEBC website. Answers are not explained and in bold so hard not to notice when reading the question unless you cover it up.
