Excellent tool for practicing for the Praxis PLT. I took an alternate route to teaching and have not had formal schooling on history and principles of teaching. This book helped me learn everything I needed to do well on the test. I would recommend it if you are in a position like me, or if you just need to refresh before the test. The practice tests are helpful too. They are a good way to work on your timing. I did not have to rush on the actual test since I practiced with this book.

I needed to take the Praxis 2 PLT after moving to a new state that required it. I had not taken classes in about 15 years and was worried about my ability to pass this test. Based on the reviews of others, I bought this book, studied for about 2 weeks and passed with flying colors. It is a great, comprehensive review of the topics and I went into the test feeling confident in my ability to do well. Thank you, CliffsNotes!

I've taken this test at least three times and each time I got a different study book. When I bought this book I passed with flying colors. The information is straight to the point on what you need to know for the Praxis II PLT 7-12. Great book

Important! This book is almost a carbon copy of the Cliffnotes book written in 2006 by the same author. The introduction, content and ALL the practice tests are EXACTLY the same. The only difference I could tell between the two versions is that the information has been reorganized to fit the new content areas as prescribe by ETS. I mention this for two reasons 1) save yourself the money and buy the first version for a third of the cost and 2) don't bother waiting for shipping, as this book usually takes 2 weeks to ship from other sellers.Book ReviewRegardless of the version you buy, the content and practice tests are excellent. The book does a great job of covering all the key aspects of the material without being bogged down in minutia. If you have taken education courses and need the 'hit-list' of key ideas and topics, this is the book for you.

I used this study guide to study for my Principles of learning and Teaching Praxis II exam which I took for my Early Childhood teacher certification state requirement. The PLT informational section is split into 4 large chapters: Students as Learners, Instructional Processes, Assessment, and Professional Development, Leadership & Community. Each section is clearly organized, labeled and written.Personally, I found 2 sections most helpful in my studying: Students as Learners (which details different approaches to teaching, different theorists, key vocabulary) and Instructional Processes (lesson planning, objectives, classroom strategies, behavior management). They were detailed and clear; if I encountered a theory/term that I didn't know, I would google it and read more. Even though I have just completed a teacher prep program, there were unfamiliar theorists that I needed to read more about. The Assessment section was very short and lacked the detail that seemed to go into the other sections of the textbook. Seriously, the Assessment chapter is like 3 pages long. Plan to do some extra reading/researching for your studying; it'll help. The final section (Professional Development) was almost superfluous in its content. It details the professional resources available to teachers (PD, journals, colleagues, organizations) and who at a school is included in a teaching team. The section also included a lengthy bit on educational history, from the Latin Grammar Schools in New England to Obama's education plan -- it's good knowledge to have, but I wouldn't over-study it.The text book, for me and my Praxis II exam, overstated the importance of Bloom's Taxonomy in understanding and designing better objectives. As a result, I over-studied Bloom's Taxonomy. Overall, though, this was a great study guide. It was clear and detailed, with great testing tips/hints, and certainly helped prepare me for the exam!

I bought this to help me review for the PLT 7-12 test, so I cannot speak to the contents of the Early Childhood or 5-9 tests. But this book gave great preparation for the 7-12 test. The test described the format of both portions--multiple choice and constructed response--exactly as they appeared on the test, along with strategies for answering. It also included a great breakdown of theories/theorists, instructional strategies, classroom management strategies, and legislation you might be expected to know. I only spent a couple of days cramming with this, and felt like the test was just what I had expected. To me, that's all you can ask from study material--the rest is up to you.

I found this book EXTREMELY helpful when studying for my Praxis II PLT. It was well-organized, making it easier for you to focus on important philosophers or theorists or any other topic you needed refreshing on. I wish I had found study guides for my other Praxis II exam in this version, but alas, they did not have it on . This test prep book was easy to use and seemed to provide information true to the actual exam. I scored a 181 on my exam, and I know the refreshing and reinforcing this book provided boosted my score v. what I would have made without the test prep. I HIGHLY recommend this study guide to all teacher candidates looking to take the Praxis II PLT.
