I'll soon post a review of this book on my LSAT blog, but here are my preliminary thoughts on the Handbook:Despite the come-on subtitle ("Get to know the LSAT"...in bed), this book is worth getting if you have trouble with Comparative Reading passages..Previously, the best source of info about how LSAC views the exam was the introduction to The Official LSAT SuperPrep and the explanations for the 3 PrepTests contained within it.The Official LSAT Handbook is a minor expansion on SuperPrep's detailed introduction. It might not be the most exciting piece of writing you've ever read, but there's a great deal of value in a breakdown of the LSAT from the test-makers themselves.I highly recommend that you read the relevant part of the Handbook or SuperPrep before drilling particular types of questions in your books of PrepTests. The most important new content is the discussion of the (relatively-new) Comparative Reading passages, which were added to the exam in June 2007.The end of the book, the appendix, is where you'll find the bulk of the other new material - the stuff not contained in SuperPrep. There's a detailed approach to diagramming Logic Games. While this stuff won't be earth-shattering for people who read my blog and use the books I recommend on the blog, it'll serve as a good basic introduction. However, it's certainly not enough - one should also work through several dozen LSAT PrepTests, both timed and untimed, and get more detailed strategies for the various sections of the exam.***Since it wasn't included above in the product description, here's how LSAC describes the book:The LSAT is a test of analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension, including comparative reading. What's the best way to learn how to approach these types of questions before you encounter them on the day of the test? There's no better way than The Official LSAT Handbook, published by the Law School Admission Council. Use this inexpensive guide to become familiar with every type of LSAT question so that you can make the most of the rest of your test preparation and do your best on the test.Note: this handbook contains information that is also included in The Official LSAT SuperPrep. The information in The Official LSAT Handbook has been expanded and updated.)

LSAC is always really good about producing some excellent material (i.e., 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests,10 More Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests (Lsat Series),The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests (Lsat Series), and The Official LSAT SuperPrep). We should expect nothing less of the official makers/producers of LSAT.While the contents of this book are excellent, buyer should note that for about $6 more, the buyer could purchase The Official LSAT SuperPrep ("SuperPrep"), which basically offers word-for-word the same information as this book "new" book - The Official LSAT Handbook. This "new" book is a carbon copy of the first portion of the SuperPrep book. The only differences are:1) The SuperPrep book provides three real LSAT from the past (Feb 1996, 1999, and 2000) with explanations. This "new" books does not give you any full-length tests.2) This "new" book - The Official LSAT Handbook - does provide some form of exercise. It has an appendix section (not found in the SuperPrep book) with helpful diagramming techniques (for analytical reasoning), real logical reasoning questions, and several comparative reading passages. But again, no full-lengths tests. This "new" book is handy and portable. But if you're a cost conscious person trying to find the most cost-effective way to study for the LSAT, then don't purchase this book - buy the SuperPrep book instead. We still give the book 4-stars, however, because the content of the book is excellent. The techniques and information in the book (though readily available from the SuperPrep book) are quite good. For those not planning on taking any LSAT prep classes or tutoring, consider reading over the Analytical Reasoning (Games) and Logical Reasoning techniques from this book (or SuperPrep book). So why not 5-stars? We think the reading comprehension section of this book is uneventful and unhelpful. It is really difficult to find genuinely good and effective advice on Reading Comprehension. This "new" book basically regurgitates what you probably already know (and what many mass-marketing test prep companies espouse). In our mind, 5-stars are reserved for books that are absolutely essential and close to perfect for LSAT preparation.

This book is not at all helpful in prepping for the LSAT. It explains to you how the test is formulated, how scores are calculated, but regardless, you don't learn anything of substance. Aside from the practice tests, all of the material can essentially be found online.

The handbook is okay, but it didn't really help me that much. In order to study for the LSAT you really need problems and practice tests, and this just (tries to) explain the different sections. After I read through most of it once I didn't look at it again, and I didn't remember most of what I had read.

I listened to the prelaw advisor to get this book. It's fine for just give a full picture of LSAT, but not very useful for prep.

A little bit thin on details and strategy. I had to buy a different book for that. But, overall, it gave me a solid idea of what to expect and what the goals are of each question.

Not meant to help you with practice tests or anything like that but a basic introduction to what to expect on the test. Exactly what I thought it would be and very helpful.

I thought that this was a pretty good book for preparation. However, I found doing the actual tests as a better way to study.
