The Ranger Handbook is mainly written for U.S. Army Rangers and other light Infantry units, however it should also serve as a handy reference for other U.S. military units as it contains a summary of other manuals such as FM 6-22 (FM 22-100), FM 3-21.8 (FM 7-8), FM 3-21.10 (FM 7-10), FM 3-90, FM 3-55.93 (FM 7-93). It covers how Infantry squad- and platoon-sized elements conduct combat operations in varied terrains. It cites other Army resources to ensure continuity. This handbook provides squad and platoon leaders with the roles, tactics, knowledge, and operational requirements to employ combat multipliers in a combat environment. I used this for a summer training event and found myself frequently referencing its material. It's laid out just like other ranger handbooks. It is a pretty small package and should fit in most cargo pockets (will not fit shoulder or leg pockets of ACUs). The paper feels like copy paper, with a slightly thicker cover on the outsides. That said it should be protected if you plan on taking it anywhere damp.In all, it is a no frills quick, small, easy to use reference.

The information may all be there, but the illustrations in this version look like somebody faxed them in to the publisher for printing. Very low fidelity in all visuals. The book is on the small side, but the regular text is pretty clear and I had no problems reading it. I'd guess this is probably close to as portable as it gets for the amount of information present. Any smaller and the text would start to suffer, or it would be a pretty thick book.

DIGITAL READERS: DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY OTHER ARMY MANUAL FROM ANYONE.This and every other publicly released US Army reference is freely available through the Army's central army registry. It's all public information; you don't need special access to get a PDF copy of this or any other manual from the Army.

A must for any soldier to improve their professional skills and increase their personal and unit survival. Very good manual for vets desiring to 'refresh' their knowledge.

Typical military training manual. Just like the one I let someone borrow 15 years ago. Little difficult to carry in pocket in kindle version though.

Timeless classic...chock full of valuable info....must have for people who prepare for the worst.

I'm just an infantryman but this is basically our bible.

If your looking at this book you already know to buy it
