If you're looking for A LOT of options in birdhouses, this book is for you. It gives plans for all sorts of houses and feeders, as well as basic information about the different species' housing needs. There is very little written instruction, just drawings and dimensions. (Two drawbacks: some of the drawings are pretty crowded and take a bit to decipher, and there is no index.) There are very basic plans as well as extremely complex designs. This book is for novice and expert alike. Mostly, it's for bird lovers.
I recently purchased "Birdhouses, Feeders You Can Make by Hi Sibley in Paperback, to add to an ever growing collection of construction of Birdhouses and feeders, not to build all of them, but to see what others have come up with to provide shelter for nesting and roosting birds and provide encouragement to have birds come to your area, neighborhood and your own yard. This book is what I would call a beginners building book as it has the basic bird house as it's purpose, with some detailed, well laid out plans for building houses and feeders. Hand drawn, it appears to be anyway, this book gives each plan and proposed house a page or so to show the general look the house or feeder is going for, and enough detail to let you use the design to make your own size in several cases or to build to the specifications the house is given. From Martin community house to Tube designed vertical bird homes, to window box feeders this book let you see where you may go to put a bird house or feeder out in your own yard, specific to the birds you would want. I really like this book, as it builds on a knowledge base and lets my imagination go forth to design and build my own houses and feeders. Thank you, Hi Sibley!
I LOVE this book. It has plans for many bird feeders and houses (especially houses). The plans are will drawn and easy to follow. This book has houses/feeders that can be finished by various skill levels from beginner to pro.
This book is a classic on building birdhouses. I grew up with this book in the 1960's and was very happy to find a replacement on . My only complaint is that this book is out of print.
The designs in this book are accurate and timeless. I have borrowed the library copy from a large consortium of member libraries several times over the past thirty years. They have over 10 million books. This publication has disappeared however from their shelves. I was thrilled to find an almost perfect copy at such a reasonable price.
Practical projects, good variety and instrtuctions are reasonable to follow. Even a beginner without expensive tools should be OK. Start with easiest project.
