I was delighted and amazed with this charming book on insects. I picked it up as a coffee table book, but it soon became one of my favorites. Koch's illustrations are unique and eye catching, and her text is informative and fun. This book is a well loved member of my library, not to mention my coffee table...
This book is one of the best recent examples of naturalistic painting that I have seen in a while. Her use of texture and keen eye for detail make this book a beautiful work. It is absolutely fabulous.
This is a great book. This series of 4 books is out of print. Dragonfly Beetle Butterfly Bee is the most rare and hardest to find. It took me 2 years to find it at a price I could pay. It was worth the wait.
I wonder how MaryJo Koch does it- all of this series of natural history books are replete with beautiful illustrations as well as chock full of interesting natural history facts. Another winner!
The beautiful artwork of Maryjo Koch and the interesting text are a great combination with appeal to older children and adults. One is never overwhelmed with information but invited into the text through the carefully researched and executed paintings. There is just enough of both to make a visual impact and retain the facts about each subject. There is also a subtle sense of humor throughout as well. I enjoy it a few pages at a time to savor the sights and indulge in an entertaining education.
Have all of the series. Love the art, the tidbits of information;a pleasure to browse for the eye and mind.Science meets art.Great to look at with kids.
The illustrations are lovely and appear to be accurate depictions of the specimen insects. Covers insects from around the world.
I enjoy all her books and this was no exception.
