This little book was made to be a resource for the Vampire Masquerade game but it can definitely be read and enjoyed by fans who have no idea what Vampire Masquerade even is.This short book, which can be read in like 30-60 minutes, shows the origins of the vampires, and their sects, and shows their 'fall from grace' from heaven and why they were shunned by all.And while the book might be extremely short in length, the build quality easily makes up for that. There are wonderful drawings, indexes, and footnotes litered throughout the book. And the silver lined pages, attached cloth bookmark, and smooth hardcover scream quality like no other.This book is a must read for any vampire or horror fan who wants to learn a bit more on vampire history and their origin.
This is the best and most accurate up-to-date book about vampire lore. If you've every thought about reading a book about the demons that walk the night this has to be your first pick. It lists all the clans in full detail with the last words of the 2nd generation clan elders to their childer and a very in depth story about the first vampire Caine. Although some of the writing may be hard to read (like the Malkavian clan text) this is still a great book. But the only way to complete it is to read The Erciyes Fragments which will complete the Book of Nod. ENJOY!
Now this is interesting- the artwork, dazzling, the stories, amazing. White Wolf has a habit for sating the needs of the insatiable- they give us, in this black tome, an incredable myriad of info, myth, intrigue. Fascinating and entertaining, this one is a must have- plus, as a bonus, it looks stunning on the bookself. It is mainly concerned with covering the ancestory of the vampire all the way back to Caine, rewriting bibical passages to vampiric effect. If you like books that are very rare in form, content and quality, get this one- it's a tome any student and lover of Darkness couldn't unlive without.
Great addition to the WOD vampire lore. Some of the pages might be hard to read as it seems like it was just carbon copied into it. I suppose they were going for the ancient scroll look to it. Has that archival feel to it.Some genuinely creepy and ominous entries. Artwork is not that great as it looks like a Goth kid was hired to scribble this one, not sure if that was intentional. The stories and lore makeup for any shortcomings though.Decent read.
Exactly like as the title says. It is a great read, but unfortunately the book will leave you wanting for more.The Book of Nod presents the history of the vampires as thought for Vampire:The Masquerade. This novel can be enjoyed even by those that are not familiar with the Masquerade setting and other novels. It offers the big picture, explains how the vampires came to be, has great quotes and "commandments", if you will, that vampires are supposed to live by. You will understand the vampire clans and what their traits are and the reader is bound to have a favorite one out of the bunch.
Dramatic. Frightening. Awesome. Incredible. These are just a few of the words that run through my head as write this review. The Book of Nod is truely a thing of dark beauty. The entire feel of the book is one of terrible majesty and horrific pride. If you enjoy vampire stories in any way, shape, or form get this book. I did and read through it twice in one sitting!
This is a must for every "Vampire The Masquerade" lover. You'll get more insight reading the first 3 chapters than you have got so far...IT IS CALLED THE VAMPIRES BIBLEAnd it lives up the nicknameRead it and be afraid of Lillith's curs on man.Caine was exhiled from paradise to the land of Nod, and that is all the Holy Bible says about Caine's stay in Nod. This book goes in detail where our bible stops and TAKES US INTO THE IMAGINATIV WORLD WE LOVE TO EXPERIENCE.
This is quite an enjoyable book. The Chronicle of Caine is complimented with Beckett's alternate theory of Clan Caine and Clan Abel. The Chronicle of Shadows is full of wonderful quotes a Noddist character could recite. And the Chronicle of Secrets is perfect for bringing about Gehenna. But while this book is worth buying, I just want to point out two problems with it that bothered me.The first is that "The Tale of the First City" goes from pages 46-55, and has only one footnote throughout it. Some scholarly insights would have been useful. The second is minor, but worth correcting. On page 53, substitute the name Giovanni with Cappadocian. The Giovanni clan came long after the Cappadocian clan, and were not a part of the original Antidiluvians.Otherwise, this is a wonderful source book and a good read as well. I highly recommend it to storytellers for Vampire: the Masquerade.
