The Sure Promise has been a favorite novel of mine for years.Laurina comes home to her father's house in Minnesota after being raised by her aunt and uncle in Boston. She falls deeply in love with Young Doc "Matthew" and he returns her affection.However, Laurina finds two young children left behind as orphans and determines to raise them herself. This causes all sorts of complications with Matthew and he breaks up with her.Laurina moves out to the soddy and endeavors to make a life for the children.What I loved about this book is Laurina's struggle with trusting God. She has no money, the town has little to spare, how will she provide for her little family? Laurina thinks she has lost her faith but she actually proves it instead. Her journey is always an inspiration and comfort to me.Of course, things turn out well (I'll not spoil the ending!)I did not read the other two books in this collection so I will not comment on them.If you enjoy Sure Promise, Ms. Grote has written sequels-The Unfolding Heart (another favorite)Treasure of the HeartLove's Shining HopeHold on My HeartMeet Me with a PromiseBy the way, Treasure of the Heart and Love's Shining Hope carry on the story of Laurina's adopted children.
This is a wonderful collection of stories. They each have a great plot with a little twist just to keep you reading. These types of books are escpecially good if you only have short times to read (has 4 stories).
I did not care for this book.
