Ten Lies and Ten Truths is a compilation of intriguing short stories, each exploring one of the foundational lies in American life today. The subjects include marriage, abortion, character, relative truth and macro-evolution. Immediately following each parable is a specific statement of the underlying Lie, its corresponding Truth and several non-fiction resources for further study of the issue. These resources include other books, scripture references and websites. The purpose of the book is to arm believers with a memorable story (and facts) about an important issue. And to disarm unbelievers by pulliing them into a realistic situation which then requires them to rethink what they have always thought was the Truth. An engaging, non-threatening conversation starter with friends and family members who hold secular views on important cultural issues.

I've been waiting for a day like this to occur. I really wasn't too certain whether I was willing to give one last chance. Parker Hudson's stories are always from the heart. But I always had trouble sticking with them, hoping his writing might get a little better. And it has. And this time around Parker doesn't go for the latest 350 page bestseller. He doesn't look to dazzle you with genius. He simply challenges you to think through 10 simple short stories. And he ultimately leaves it up to you to make your choice. He presents his evidence, and it rings true! But what are you really going to believe? 10 lies, or 10 truths? My favorite stories in this collection would be "The Plane Trip," "The Vote," (a scary concept, and it hits right between the eyes!!) "Definitions," and "The Past is Present." And the other stories are great as well. There is no bad presentation in this entire collection, and Parker Hudson made sure of that.In a nut shell, the subjects are simple, and it is what Parker Hudson chose to address. 1. Evolution 2. Our founding fathers 3. Abortion 4. God and Allah, & Islam 5. Absolute Truths 6. Character and integrity7. Marriage 8. Popular opinion, or the elites in today's society 9. Porn and promiscuity, who it hurts. 10. Our relationships in our daily lives. These are all addressed in 10 short stories. The question is, do you believe what the world tells you? Or do you stand on what God says, because you know it to be true? There is truth!!! We need to have the guts to stand up for it! Parker Hudson took the opportunity to give us something to think about. He gave us a great witnessing tool. God wants us to be witnesses for Him! Let's give God what He deserves, and that's honor, glory and praise! It's about time somebody got a little brash, and Parker Hudson wasn't afraid to approach that line, and cross it from time to time. That deserves a slap on the back, and it gives us the opportunity to serve a most awesome God the in the way He's meant to be served!

Ten Lies and Ten Truths is a collection of ten provacative short stories dealing with ethical and moral dilemmas. The hypothetical stories are so realistic that two of the stories ("Words" and "Leadership") actually occurred in real life between the time when the story was written and when I read the book! Since it only takes about ten minutes to read a story aloud, there is definitely enough time to read it and discuss a topic during a half-hour time period. I could see this being used in a high school or college ethics class; or even in a business seminar focussing on core values. Some of the topics covered include abortion, homosexual marriage, separation of church and state, victimless crimes, relative truth, and are all religions the same? I especially enjoyed The Game Show story. It focusses on little known facts and common assumptions that aren't actually true. If you want to get a lively discussion started, try reading one of these stories and watch the fur fly.

Can you say that you would know a lie from the truth any day? What if you were faced with ten stories, which considering the way society in the world today is leaning, could you separate them from the truth or would you say these stories are based on the truth? What do you think about Evolution and Darwin's theory? What about abortion? Is America a nation founded on Christian principles? Are God and Allah the same? Is there a standard for absolute truth or is it subjective? Has character become a thing of the past in light of producing results in business? Does marriage need to be redefined past traditional marriage to include polygamists and others? Should the government have a hand in how our children are raised considering most parents have opted out of their responsibilities? Are pornography and promiscuity victimless crimes? Finally, we can always work on relationships since time is irrelevant right?Parker Hudson, creates some rather vivid and downright frightening stories that articulate each of this situations in which lies are accepted and society is spoon-fed something else in light of considering the rights of the minority over the majority as has been happening for quite some time. In light of the recent Supreme Court decisions, from redefining traditional marriage to include gay marriages and the fallout of these situations on those that hang onto God's moral and absolute truths. While these stories might seem a bit far fetched right now, I firmly believe, these will play out in the real sense from the fictional stories that Parker includes in his book Ten Lies, Ten Truths, which is illuminating the very core of our country in light of what others would have us believe. My favorite has to be, The Vote, which I would love to see expanded to a full length novel in which each of these issues are parlayed in more detail. I think this book and all its stories will one day come to fruition and that is truly a chilling and suspenseful dose of reality I don't want to be around to see. In the story of the Vote, once a year, American citizens vote by technology the things they want to see changed and anything can make its way to the ballot including lowering the drinking age to 16 from 21 as long as the majority believes it to be in the best interest. What is worse is the value of the life of a baby is decided on points and as long as the baby scores enough points it is allowed to live, if it doesn't, it is terminated. Think it couldn't happen here in America? I believe it very well could be our future at the rate we are going.I received Ten Lies, Ten Truths by Parker Hudson compliments of Edge Press for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and personal opinions. I applaud Parker's insight into each of these issues and even the questions that come up in regards to Evolution, I had never heard about or even considered. I look forward to researching all of these topics through his website which is included in a reference section following each of this subjects. This makes it a great resource, because the reader can research them on their own for further follow up. I just hope America wises up before this book becomes a non fiction one over a fictional title. Well worth 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

If you want to be inspired or an awakening to the lies you have been told and believed, then read this book. The truth will be revealed to you and have scriptures to back it up. It was a blessing to me.

Parker Hudson writes with a wonderful sensitivity to make people THINK. Those who accept what may be only lies wrapped in nice sounding phrases are challenged to consider other sources to think about their position. Well researched and very well written.
