I enjoyed this story a lot. It was short but intense. It made me think of my own dad's death. I always thought he was met by his mother. He drowned so I related to the water as well. But the story of heaven was what was captivating. I am a Christian and while this story does not exactly meet the Christian ideal, I see truth in it. I feel like God is going to give you what you need when you need it. Jake needed to look in a mirror and see that his life had meant nothing and he had accomplished nothing. In order to learn what was valuable in life (i.e.love) he had to experience that love and acceptance in this heavenly place. Then bring it back to earth to put it into practice. There is lots of truth in it and I will pass it on to friends to read.
Wow! What can I say? This short story is brilliantly written and carries a story that is relevant to so many of us. Why do we spend so much time worrying about the unimportant things in life and so little time loving, giving and sharing? I truly believe that life continues after death and this book has inspired me to take time out of my busy life now and then to just be with the people I love. Well done J.R. Whitley you definitely have a talent for writing heartfelt and thought provoking stories. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of your stories.
Perhaps I was hoping for more of an in-depth message about Heaven - even a fantasy description, but he failed to come across; otherwise, his story could be helpful as a witness to Christ.
It may be decent stereotypical sort of a purgatory type of decision-making before the pearly gates. It is far outside the Christian faith as I know it. What can I say? I'm glad it was free. Otherwise I'd ask for a refund.
