The most comprehensive introduction to environmental ethics available, ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS offers students a current look at the issues and topics that dominate the field today, organized into two main parts that take students seamlessly from theory to application. This Sixth Edition of the Pojmans' popular anthology, like its predecessors, includes numerous topic areas not covered in other anthologies. Featuring articles carefully selected for clarity and accessibility, the text follows a dialogic pro-con format presenting divergent positions on each topic, ensuring that students are both exposed to and understand both sides of every topic so they can develop their own informed positions. New selections include selections on Food Ethics and Climate Change and Energy Policy. Most of the royalties for this book are donated to groups dedicated to protecting the environment, such as the Wilderness Society and the Sierra Club.

This text was required reading for a graduate level environmental ethics course. While I felt that some of the essays were relevant, more than a few came across as lengthy diatribes filled with dense self-important babbling. In some cases concepts were introduced that were never fully explained, and then were critiqued by other authors who also did not feel a pressing need to define said concept(s). The lack of an index for this anthology made many such essays particularly difficult to get through, as it felt that the editors were in some ways just as confused as the readers when bringing together important concepts for useful review. Future editions could benefit from a lengthier introduction to each subject chapter, with indexed references, put together by the editors, and would in all probability then make this a superior text in the field. Updating many of the essays to reflect current schools of thought would also be useful. All in all, three stars for format.

"Environmental Ethics: Readings in Theory and Application" is about the best anthology dealing specifically with environmental ethics that I have come across. Now in its Sixth Edition, "Environmental Ethics" includes an excellent balance of classical (e.g., Kant and J.S. Mill) and contemporary writings in the field. Moreover, the articles anthologized represent a range of viewpoints, with no one perspective dominating. A proper balance has been struck.Topics include animal rights, pollution, population and consumption, ecological ethics, climate change, econfeminism, sustainability, and others. Each major section is preceded by a brief but helpful introduction setting out the major issues and giving a quick synopsis of the various articles that follow. There is more than enough material in this anthology for a semester-length course devoted specifically to environmental ethics.Like most texts, the price tag is far more than it should be. But this drawback does not detract from the quality of the book.

I had to use this text for a college course, but after reading it I'd recommend it to anyone interested in environmental ethics. Even at a beginner level, it is a great introduction to modern issues and the varying perspectives on those issues.

damn b, this made my head think, a lot. A great selection of pieces, some essential readings within, totally worth the buy bro. After reading this book you will be saying "I am the walrus." The only thing this book needs is more cowbell. Can land, water, and air have inherent value? I don't know but this book may say something about it. The only way to find out is to read it. BUY MY BOOK! BUY MY BOOK! BUY MY BOOK! BUY MY BOOK!

This was a required textbook for a course, and the course would have been impossible without having this book in hand. I spent far too many hours pouring over this book. A good compilation of arguments on both sides of environmental ethics thinking. It was a rented copy, so full of previous highlighting that it made picking out the highlights much easier.I wouldn't want to own this copy, and I was more than happy to return it after the course was completed.

Great book. This choice as the class text was a good one. One of the most enlightening books I have read in awhile. Assortment of essays from numerous authors about environmental ethics. Differing viewpoints from authors on subjects provide many classical and new theories to the most pressing environmental issues of today and the future. Book was delivered in better condition than I expected.

This book surprised me! I was not a big fan of philosophy before I read this book. It made me realize about so many things that contribute to the environment. Philosophy has definitely grown on me!definitely get this book.

This book contains essays relevant to this topic. Wide selection of approaches and critiques of the subject matter. Although it is a text, it is a good read. The essays vary from "old" to "new". Most of the modern critiques are excellent.
