The latest procedure coding book for psychiatric services is the 2013 CPT Standard Edition published by the AMA. Most procedure codes are changing come January 1, 2013. I sprang for the heavy volume so I could consult it as needed rather than rely on the abbreviated "crosswalks" that have been shared among colleagues. This is a good resource, but it seems very overpriced to me. But, such as life. One doesn't buy these often in one's career, so have at it. If you bill insurance companies for your services, or if you keep detailed records, and we all should, you need the correct codes. Enough said.
Not very relevant to psychiatry and did not provide specifics on now to code psychiatry codes. It did not give me any more information than I already knew from webinars and my own reading.
Healthcare professionals need to update their CPT codebook for the forthcoming year. This one was printed on low quality, thin paper that easily tears. The quality of the paper is comparable to Russian toilet paper. The American Medical Association is making a big profit on this over-priced economy edition of the latest coding book.
I bought this book as a resource book for our Consumer Medical Advocate business. It does have a few pictures which describe parts of the body, which is very helpful. The book was like new and arrived promptly.
Uneeded changes in cumbersome CODING System that (1) makes it easier for insurance company administrative functions, (2) makes it easier for third parties to control physician activity, and (3) produces mammoth revenue stream for AMA that tends to make it more a business independent from it's membership.
This was the paperback edition, also known as the draft edition. I saved a bundle of money by buying this version. The rest of the class had the colored, spiral-bound edition with pictures, etc. This book had everything in it that I needed to ace my class and was a lot lighter. Because I bought it in August, I had to replace it in January (175 changes/updates). So glad I bought the paperback version!!! Shipped quickly and in great shape.
I have to purchase 4 of these every year. I'm not sure where get's these, but they are $5.00 to $15.00 cheaper per book than other vendors. There is no difference in the quality of the book, so I'm happy to save $20 to $60 each year.
This will work but when they say standard that is exactly what it is. It is printed on paper similar to the newspaper. No color at all. Makes it tough to find the different chapters in the book. But it works fine.
