I am a 4th grade math teacher and one of the most frequent questions I get from parents all the time is... "Which workbook can I use for my child to help them get extra practice?" I usually recommend the EngageNY website but when it comes to workbooks, most of the workbooks out there do a very poor job in presenting common core questions. This workbook is by far the most useful and also affordable workbook for kids to practice common core questions. Video explanations are priceless and a must use. It's unfortunate to say but many parents have a hard time to explain even 4th grade math to their child and often times kids are left helpless when they do not understand problems. The website included in the workbook comes with all video explanations so you can simply turn on the video when your child is struggling with a problem or problems. Questions are written in a similiar format like the state common core math exam. There are tons of practice problems but perhaps the most useful feature for us teachers is that each question is labeled with the common core standard. I will be using this workbook along with my other usual materials for my class this September to assign students homework problems. I would highly recommend their Multiple Choice and Free Response workbook.
I have ordered two kinds of the common core math for my child. It is great so I can help her over the weekend etc to practice even more. It is what they are learning in school so I am so happy that I chose these
I have been using Spectrum and Common Core Math 4 Today workbook over the summer with my after-school program kids. I wish I found about this workbook earlier because there are a few problems with Spectrum and Common Core Math 4 Today. Both books are too easy and provide very simple problems. This is a big danger because in schools kids are used to seeing many "wordy” math problems. This workbook on the other hand provides very good problems that kids are likely to encounter on exams. There is not a lot of space in the Multiple Choice or Free Response workbook but the content is spot on. I wish the book did have more word problems, it seems fraction heavy since the exam does heavily focus on fractions. Also including video explanations is a brilliant idea. Definitely my top pick for a math workbook for 4th graders.
I purchased both workbooks for my daughter and my sister's kids to prepare for 4th grade. My kids are in summer camp and the workbooks were recommended from one of her teachers. The book is organized very nicely and they all questions are common core related. As a parent, I am concerned with the common core since there has been so much discussion regarding this common core concepts being implemented for students even at this 4th grade level. I personally do not like the common core but since my kids have to take the state exam. I do not really have a choice. Best part I love about this book is they have all explanations in video format which is so helpful especially as a parent because I do not have to worry about her not understanding the questions.
I am absolutely impressed with the quality of this workbook. I love the easy to follow structure. My son, who is 8 years old wanted us to get it although he's now going into 3rd grade. He's so excited and can't wait for the 3rd grade workbook!
I have been waiting for a good math workbook for my child and finally I think we found a great one. My husband and I are very happy with the Multiple Choice workbook (we bought both workbooks.) MC Workbook contains lots of questions and they all include video explanations so my daughter doesn't have the excuse to say she doesn't understand a problem or she needs help. As parents we are very concerned with the common core as we do not personally agree with it, and learning the "common core" way is even more annoying. I hope they will change the standards soon but this workbook does contain common core questions. I was using Spectrum before, big mistake! Spectrum books are too easy, they have a bunch of addition and multiplication problems and think it is enough practice. Common core is way harder so please be aware. Would highly recommend this book.
Excellent workbook, I love how these workbooks are divided into weeks and days which makes it very easy to follow. The questions in the book are also ACTUALLY common core, none of the other workbooks are real simulated questions. The state exam has all word problems and many workbooks have easy problems which are mental math. The questions in both workbooks are challenging and resemble the common core exam. Highly recommended
As a fourth grade teacher for several years, I find this workbook to be child-friendly and easy to understand. I just received a complimentary copy of this book from the Argo Brothers and this is an unbiased review! I love the layout of the book's pages and the helpful math tips at the bottom of each page. Each problem also includes the NYS Math Standards and the book includes an assessment in the back! Parents, and teachers too, have an easy to use answer key in the back of the book. There is also a video that correlates with this workbook! I recommend this book for both parents and teachers.
