Working as a health and sexuality educator in Miami, as well as being a mother of three, this book delivers the information teens really want to know in a way that is understandable and interesting to them. Another big plus is that this book has the most illustrations of any other book on the subject, which holds my students and teens attention as well. I always recommend this book to the staff personnel, teachers, parents and students I meet at the health facilities and schools I visit. This truly is an invaluable handbook!

Working in an facility that serves youth between the ages of 11 - 19, one of their greatest needs is for information about their bodies, sexuality and how to protect themselves in many different types of situations. Having looked at and read most, if not all of what is out there, this book is perfect for young people and their parents. We have been very successful in providing this book to young people of diverse populations and backgrounds - it seems to be making a difference - and the teens love it. I recommend this book highly for young people, parents and teachers - so much so, I took the time to write this recommendation.

Working within a private practice, I constantly find young people and parents who are looking for understandable answers to their questions about sex, responsibility and growing up in a healthy way. I have personally read over a dozen books on this topic, but this is the one we have in our waiting room and that we recommend to our youth and parents. This book provides accurate, honest, understandable and realistic information to those who need it most. Our teens love it, and parents find it to be a Godsend. If there is one book each family should have it's this one.

I purchased this book about two years ago for my daughter, who was 14 at the time, because I knew that although she had learned the basics of sex, she still had questions that she wasn't comfortable discussing with me.After the book arrived, I read it and wished it was something I'd had when I was a teenager. It's full of facts and good practical advice that most parents will probably agree with. After I gave it to my daughter, both she and her best friend absolutely devoured it. I spotted it in her room the other day and it is now dog-eared from use and several entries in the long list of creative and humorous ways to say no to sex had been underlined or highlighted. My daughter told me that she appreciated this book not only for the information it provides about the mechanics of sex and birth control, but also the non-preachy way it covers the consequences of having sex and reasons to wait to have sex. I highly recommend this book and am glad that I purchased it for my daughter.

Though this book is VERY informative, I hesitate to encourage people to hand it over to their teen, especially teens younger than 15. The book is much a "how to" book. How to have sex, what an organism feels like, and how to put on a condom. Yes, it talks about pregnancy, abortion and STD's but it lacks moral decision making. This is where the parent steps in, to read the book with your child and talk to them about responsible decision making about their body and about sex and to instill your values and morals along with the "how to" book. I bought it for my 13 year old and hesitated before handing it over to her. I think I'll read it along with her. I do like that it is up front and answers questions directly.

I visited a cool web site that had this book recommended and bought it and it is the best book that I own. It answers all of my questions, it's honest, fair, easy to understand and lots of pictures. My friends and I look at it and use it all the time now. It helps me with my relationships too! I love this book and think every teenager should have a copy - so does my Mom.

Everything you hear about but people don't want to talk about - it's finally talked about here. I'm glad I finally found this book. It's going away with me to college this Fall. I only wish I found it sooner. If you care about your health, your relationships and your family, this book tells you how to be smart, healthy and how to feel good about yourself.

Michael Basso has really created a handbook that every teenager, teacher, and parent should own. In an approachable question and answer format, Basso outlines the most frequently asked questions about anatomy, relationships, contraception/STDs, and violence that he has experienced in his many years as a high school teacher. Particularly wonderful are the informative and often funny illustrations peppered throughout the book.I did find his weakest area to be the section on pregnancy and childbirth. (Episiotomy is NOT necessary for birth and numerous studies throughout the world has shown it to be an unnecessary procedure). I also took issue with his use of the word "AIDS" when most educators use "HIV" to describe this STD. I think that many teens (and adults) would not be able to put this book down - I know I couldn't!
