As a Pastor of Children's Ministries, I frequently give away or recommend books from this series. The series provides parents with information and a strategy for presenting the material to their children. Use the recommendations as a suggestion - your child may need to hear the content sooner, depending on the exposure he/she has had from peers or others.
All of the books written for boys worked out great! I have a son that is Special needs had no interest in learning the facts. He has a true Christian Heart that goes beyond anything I could have taught. It has always been like he knew it already. This was a way to explain without going against how he felt. It has everything you want, need, and a little you may not want to know but it is out there. All areas are covered without losing God in the process. If are just a believer in God or not a believer this still covers all the facts at each appropriate ages. I think the one for 15 plus is okay for your 13 year old to cover also. Really good set for teaching! ! I highly, highly recommend!
I bought the entire set for my son but, since he's only 6 yrs. old, we haven't read this book yet. I was thankful to find a series on this subject that gave the information I was comfortable with providing for my son at the right age. My husband has been reading the beginning books with our son and they both enjoy the time together sharing this important information at an age appropriate level.
This series is very well written. Medically correct, tastefully illustrated. Does a good job guiding the level of detail with the age brackets all while framing human sexuality in a Christian perspective (the main reason I purchase this series). I highly recommend using this series as a tool to having ongoing discussions about (hetero-)sexuality with your children. If you can't have mature discussions about sexuality you certainly are ready to be having sex.
This book is really well written and brings God in nicely without being too preachy. But, when it comes to matters of opinion, it just went too far for me. The book advises no sex until marriage and no masturbation. Generally, it gave good practical advice but it just went a little too far for me. Oh, and, no terrible surprise, but it was anti-gay which I was bothered by.
Muslim, Jewish and Christian parents will value the words used to discuss sexuality issues with their children. A must for parents to read early in the lives of their children to prepare them to best open up the topic at age childs classmates are talking about sexual matters.
