Kids love practical jokes. And they love the idea of playing practical jokes on adults even more, particularly when the adult in question is temporarily brought down to the same level as the kid. This was a favorite book of mine when it was first published because it perfectly brings those common child fantasies to life in a realistic manner. Pete is angry when he learns that his grandfather will be coming to live with him and will be taking over Pete's bedroom. After giving his grandfather an ultimatum, Pete declares war on his grandfather, and in this case war takes the form of an escalating series of pranks. Grandpa sees the war as an amusing diversion, and he responds in kind. But by the end of the book, both combatants find themselves trapped in a situation that they would rather avoid. This book artfully captures the dynamics of family relationships. Pete and his grandfather love each other, and yet their love is confused by the fights that they have. Kimmel-Smith does a great job of depicting the conflicted emotions that children feel for their family members. I highly recommend this book to any young reader. It is a very entertaining read, and will be a pleasant way to pass an evening or two.

The War with Grandpa Book Review Have you ever been in a situation where someone took something you love? In the story The War with Grandpa, Peter the main character losses his room to his grandpa. In the book Peter writes a story for school when grandpa comes to live with them. When grandpa comes he gets Peter's room. Peter never felt worse before. He couldn't believe his own parents would give his room to his grandpa. So Peter started a war with him. During the war Peter and his grandpa played some mean tricks on each other. On time Peter took Grandpa's false teeth. With out his teeth grandpa sounded really funny. Something else was Grandpa took and hid Peter's school supplies. Then Peter had to go around the house looking for his supplies and was late for school. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to cry and laugh. This book gets a 4 and half stars. Robert Kimmle Smith explains the book very well. He also tells the struggle Peter had to go through. Now I could tell why they call it The War with Grandpa.

Meet a boy named Peter and his Grandpa. What happened at first was his little sister, Jenny, told him that their Grandpa was moving into their house because Grandpa was lonely in Florida. Peter was obsessed because Grandpa was going to move into his room. He had to because his room was on a low floor and Grandpa had a hurt leg. This is a story all about Grandpa and Peter playing tricks on each other, but being nice to each other when they are not doing the war. Some of this book has some sorrow in it, when Peter feels bad for Grandpa.I would recommend this book for ages 7 - 12 years old because younger children would not understand it and adults would think it's boring. I also strongly suggest this book 7 - 12 years old because this age would like the tricks that Grandpa and Peter do to each other.

I have read this book aloud to my 5th graders for a few years now. The story line is a great one for kids - showing that families can struggle with various issues and sometimes unsure of how to solve the problem. There is a lot of humor in this story as the grandson tries to go to war with Grandpa to get his room back. The book is filled with figurative langage, such as similes, metaphors, and hyperboles. Very enjoyable read aloud!

The book War with is a great book. It is about a boy named Peter who is very excited when his sister Jenny said that their grandpa is coming to live with them. His grandpa had to stay in Peter's room because grandpa hurt his leg, and if he stayed in the guest room in the attic it wouid be too many flights of stairs for grandpa to climb. So Peter has to leave his room that he loves and go to live in the attic. Peter really wants his room back, so he thinks the only way to get it back is to deciare war! Read this book to find out what happens!

The war with Grandpa is a wonderful story! Pete's selfishness when it comes to giving up his room to Grandpa, is not much different from a real 10 year olds reaction. His "war" at first seems more of a game than a war. But as the war escalates, Pete discovers his love for Grandpa outweighs his selfishness. Beautifully written!

The book "The War With Grandpa" by Robert Kimmel Smith is a wonderful book for the age level of 9-13.This book is about a boy named Pete that is 11 years old, and his Grandfather was lonely down in Florida because Pete's Grandmother died. Pete got forced out of his room so his Grandfather could live with Pete,Jenny, his mom and his dad. They started a war by taking each other's stuff.Well that is all I can tell you. This story was sooooo amazing!

I did not buy this book on my . I read it as a kid, and I still have it. It's a great story, funny, and has a great ending. I could say more about the book, but it would give away some of the story. I am going to have my (almost 8 year old) son read it, and my 10yo daughter is excited to read it too.
