How wonderful to finally have a more comprehensive book on the shells of Texas. I am tired of buying books about the shells of Florida. This large encyclopedia covers over 900 species of shells found in Texas waters. Each shells has a picture to help with identification. I am a casual beachcomber and shell hunter, but I want to know about the shells I pick up at the beach. The book should be a valuable resource for those who shell the Western Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico. Too large and heavy to carry to the beach, it can be used in the comfort of your home.
A massive coverage of the mollusks of Texas shores, the Caribbean and Brazil. Photographically beautiful and descriptively complete, including cephalopods ,nudibranchs and pelagic species of the Atlantic Cavoliniidae. A very valuable book for anyone interested in malacology, conchology or just beach combing for seashells.
I thought this was pricey when I ordered it. When I received it, I realized I got a great deal! This is the size of a text book. The photos are extensive and the information on each species is detailed. This will be a family favorite at the beach.
I have found the book very useful in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, as one might expect, since so many GOM mollusks occur through out the Gulf. I like the high resolution color photographs and the ecological chapters that precede the taxonomic section. I found it on for about 30 dollars, you might find a better deal. If you are interested in shells and marine environments characterized by Mollusca, this will be a useful addition to your library, even if you have the classic Texas books by Jean Andrews and others. Very impressive artistically, I thought.
I love the hardcover. It is one of the best books ever written about North American Mollusks. However, I was very disappointed with the Kindle version. I found it very difficult to use and tedious to navigate. The hardcover was for me an excellent investment. The Kindle version was a waste of money.
I had seen this book in Texas Highways Magazine a couple of years ago, and failed to make my purchase at that time. However, had it in stock, and it arrived quickly. The book is interesting, informative, and offers much more useful information than I actually expected. The photos are great, and make identifying shells much easier than any book I've used in the past.I'm extremely pleased with this book, and am so happy I found it at !
Perfect condition...I needed more indentification guides to finish identifing my shell collection and this book helped out a lot...I will rebuy from this seller....It arrived quickly and in excellent condition.
I would highly recommended this book. Everything about it is first rate, the photos, the text etc. Shows many species that you never see in books.
