This and "How to Hide a Butterfly" are the two books of the entire series that my son is still requesting a good year after first receiving them. All of the books are at least good, but this one is one of the better ones. The best of them all is probably "How to Hide a Meadow Frog", which my son only no longer reads because it fell to pieces about 2 months ago from constant reading. Butterfly, Crocodile, and Octopus are all also very good. Unless you're buying the whole series, I'd take a pass on "How to Hide a Polar Bear" and "How to Hide a Parakeet". The former tries, but the mammals simply don't hide as interestingly as the insects or the amphibians, while the latter depends too much on the mottled brown birds, when there are plenty of birds out there that hide very well with more interesting coloration.
How to Hide an Octopus was a bit better - I felt there was a lot more science was presented especially about the Octopus. Also, finding the animals camouflaged in this book was easier thus less feeling of accomplishment when found. I just wanted a bit more facts in here.
I'm a herpetologist (someone who studies reptiles and amphibians) and I am always looking for reptile books that are accurate and fun. The illustrations are beautiful and creative. Thumbs up!
I gave this out a goodie bag treat for my 4 year old son's "Octonauts" themed birthday party. My son loves this book and it was cheap enough I could get 20 of them for the goodie bags. I was suprised with the quality considering it was only about $5
I am going to be teaching Science this summer and I thought this was a great book for children. I plan to use it on my lessons and it is going to make it more enjoyable for the children.This is a great book to have if you have children at home.
My two year old son loves this book. Hide and Seek is a favorite game with toddlers and this is a lovely extension.
