Like the previous reviewer, I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a different type of puzzle than the ones provided. However, I was even more disappointed when I realized how many errors there are in the book. I don't know if there are any later printings with the errors corrected, but when I checked the answers in the back of the book, I realized that there are many instances in which the problems give incorrect or misleading information or fail to give you all the information you need to solve the problem. The worst examples were the mathematical errors. For example, the very first problem in the book asks the reader to figure out how many poker chips there are of each color and says that there are 6 more red chips than blue chips. Then, the answer says that there are 30 red chips and 25 blue. Problem 13 asks the reader to determine the total number of 4 types of dominoes, but the answer given involves 6 types. Problem 34 asks for 5 odd numbers that add up to 14, and the given answer is only 4 numbers (11, 1, 1, 1). It's possible that they mean 5 digits (11 having 2 digits), but it's still misleading. The one that really blew my mind was the one that asked you to find the name of an author by unscrambling the words "Our greatest novelist, senor." The book claimed that the answer was Robert Louis Stevenson, but there was no 'b' for Robert in the anagram and no 'g' or 'a' in Robert Louis Stevenson. Don't bother trying that hard to solve these problems. The headache you'll get trying is nothing compared to the headache you'll have when you find out that some of them are unsolvable as written!
Had I been able to see what was in the book before purchasing it, I would have realized it wasn't what it appeared to be. The copy on the back cover made it seem the reader would have body-in-the-library type of mini-mysteries. However, both my son, whom the gift was for, and I were disappointed to find nothing more than word problems. The book reads like math homework, which might be good for kids, but wasn't what I wanted to give as a Christmas present.
