This is an excellent book! Easy to read and appropriate for all areas of management, not just healthcare. I have shared the content with many people. It not only tells you how to work on good leadership skills, but also how to avoid bad ones. Probably the best textbook purchase I have made this year! Thanks
It's a book I had to have for class. It contains pages with words. I will read and understand these words, and hopefully convert this understanding into a good grade. This is my first Rental. If the return goes smoothly, I will have saved a substantial amount versus purchasing from my school's bookstore.
I had the pleasure of reading Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives for a project for my small group communication course and I was very happy that I choose this book. I really enjoyed the way the book was laid out and was very easy to read. I liked the way that the cornerstones were laid out in the beginning with a brief overview of each and how they would all come together to make an exceptional leader. As I read on through this book and into each chapter to a greater description of each cornerstone and into each section of the cornerstone of management. The explanation of each step was well written and very easy to understand. One of the major points that I enjoyed was the way the charts that were highlighted explained the good as well as the bad points for each point that was being explained in that chapter. I was able to give a great description of each portion and then sum up all that was explained without a great effort. I am encouraged to ask several of my co-workers to read this book to help them become better employees and to also build on their leadership skills to become a better leader in our department.Thank you.
Overall, I would rate this book as okay. Drives home the message of the importance of energizing your team and developing key attributes to effectively manage others. There was not much original material included in this text. I would describe it as a "meta analysis" of best practices for healthcare leaders. One of the best features of this book is that the end of each chapter contains references to books for future study about the topic discussed in the chapter. To that end, the majority of the books recommended in the book are also great reads.
This is a great text and has great scenarios. I think it is best used in conjunction with Level 5 leadership, Covey's 7 Habits, etc.
With the current challenges faced by healthcare executives and the healthcare industry, this is a must read for anyone currently serving or aspiring to serve in a leadership role.A major emphasis in the delivery of today's healthcare is on evidence based practice, but most executive and leadership guidance in the popular literature is based upon opinions and hype. The authors of this book change that -- the principles discussed in this book are based upon the most current in leadership research, theory, and practice. Although solidly grounded, the book is very readable and inspirational -- the authors provide specific practical guidance on what it really means and how to lead by personal conviction, be visionary, earn loyalty and trust, and stimulate creativity and flexibility.A classic.Dennis ErwinE2 Consulting
I ordered this book through . I loved the book. I did not pay attention to where the shipping was from. It was from India. It took me almost a month to recieve it. They changed their estimated delivery couple of times. I wish I knew ahead of time. The paper quality was poor. It did not have an ISBN number or name of the publisher. Some of the words did not print properly. There are a few pages where the words did not scan in properly making me think someone copied a whole book using a scanner. :(
