Tremendous, well-balanced view of health systems around the world. It is unfortunate that health reform discussions becomes political. However, reviews calling out some "agenda" related to an "egalitarian perspective" are simply reactionary. The US is the only developed nation in the world that doesn't supply universal access to healthcare as a human right and we stand to learn a lot from our fellow nations.
I kept the book after my class ended because it does have a fairly detailed comparison of many nations' health systems in an organization that makes it generally easy to compare. But the book is deeply flawed, beyond the numerous typos. Some chapters are so poorly edited it's baffling; in the UK chapter, for instance, there is a section subhead that does not at all reflect the contents of the section. In other chapters, I sometimes get a sense of a certain agenda being pushed. If I had to stand behind the accuracy of a paper, I would probably want to get a confirming source for any information I took from this book. But I would love to see a carefully edited, updated, more concise version.
I'm currently in my doctorate program and purchased this book for a course. I love the details and unbiased information regarding multiple countries. Great resource!
Great reference for healthcare programs around the world.
Great book, easy read!
another fancy book for a class that we didn't really use.
I read this book and received an A for the class.
