Two and a half years ago I started a company focused on energy efficient lighting retrofits and upgrades for businesses. Up until the publication of "Lighting Retrofit and Relighting," there was very little comprehensive information about retrofitting and relighting and additionally had to be found from a variety of different sources. You can always get information on products meant to be used in ideal/perfect retrofit situations from manufacturers, but not all have detailed information about troubleshooting and installation instructions when dealing with existing fixtures. You can always get books on lighting for new construction, and boy it is so much easier when you are working from a clean slate.Rarely is the lighting retrofit market and luminaire selection process straightforward or consistent. From one customer to the next, EVERY situation is different and requires understanding the technologies as you would the back of your hand. Deciding what is most appropriate and for which applications is a time consuming and extremely detailed task, and it is even harder to explain to an outsider.The Bottom Line:I wish I had access to this book and the information when I opened my company. It is comprehensive, technical without being intimidating, as well as providing practical, real-world solutions.For the novice this book will take you from start to finish and provide excellent guidance for a majority of the lighting retrofit situations you will encounter.For the intermediate to advanced lighting professional, this book will refresh your knowledge base and will present an organized approach that, on many days, seems nearly impossible to try to explain to someone else. Regardless of skill level, this is a must have reference for electricians, lighting professionals, specifiers, architects and contractors.I would also say that this could prove to be a great reference for the NCQLP LC exam
