I use this as a textbook for a high school expository writing class. It is excellently organized with chapters on genres such as literary analysis, memoirs, profiles, abstracts, evaluations etc. What makes it especially useful are the readings. They are all high-interest and provide good examples/models for students. It also includes an MLA and grammar handbook. It is a one-stop resource for any writing class.
This was a required book for my Composition 2 class. It is a thick little book, and I am going to be keeping it on my shelf. This will be a great reference throughout my life.If you actually read it, then you will learn a lot. It is simple, and well thought out. All in all, a very helpful resource.
I rented his book from for my class. It is interesting but not the best writing guide. I would not purchase it for purse all use as there are better reference materials available. I would recommend the renting option as an easy and economical alternative if the book is required for your coursework.
I ordered this book for a college composition class as it was a required text. This book covers a lot of ground in a small amount of space, and includes just about anything you want to know about writing. Its organized efficiently too, which makes it a breeze to use. Hands down, this is the best text I own. 10/10, would recommend.
This is a great text book that contains some very well written and insightful essays, and it does an excellent job of explaining the literary critiquing process, and how to successfully write a great paper. It includes lots of details and sidebar references, and is structured very intelligently.
What I needed for my high school English class. Helpful chapters on writing a variety of genres with sample stories, although they have an unfortunate bias to the left. Too bad most college texts don't have enough of a focus on including both sides of the conversation to foster better critical thinking. Also includes both an MLA and APA style guide which is very helpful.
This was used as a college English book for one of my courses. It has some really great pointers, stories, memoirs, examples and is overall a really good book to have, but it is quite big and saturated with a lot of examples; but the variety is good. I wouldn't use this outside the course though. I would highly recommend this if you are in need of this for an online course or if you want to brush up/teach yourself English reading/writing.
I rented this for my Kindle Paperwhite but was disappointed as it is only compatible with the Kindle Fire as well as applications. After using Calibre to convert it to epub it worked great on my Kindle and was able to use it for class. That being said the text book is well rounded however it has a definitive political bias in my opinion.
