I have taught ESL, foreign languages, writing and study skills for 30+ years. Never before encountered such a clear, concise handbook for all-purpose use. EVERYONE could benefit from a having a copy of this book on their desks!Most recently, I chose it as a quick review of basics for a group of foreign military officers writing research papers. They loved its easy access. NOW, my 17 year-old son is using it for a quick reference while writing his college application essays.
I got this book because I needed it for my adv english class.It covers almost every trick there is and it has great examples as well. I'd recommend as a support book for writers with some knowledge of the language.
I used the second edition for a long time and found it quite a useable basic text for students to carry round and refer to. This, the 3rd edition, is larger and easier to read and refer to. There are some additions which have been added and which enrich the text.
"Grammar Troublespots" aids students in their writing by showing the do’s and don’ts of a proper sentence for better essay writing. Exercises in this book give examples of errors many students commit when it comes to writing a sentence and the ways to correct it. Chapters range from subject-verb agreement, nouns and quantity words past participles, pronouns and pronoun reference, verb tenses along with other chapters with assignments for students to practice these tips and lessons. Each chapter comes with a writing assignment based off the subject matter covered in the previous chapter. This gives students a chance to see what they’ve learned from the chapter and how to apply it to their writing. Raimes lets students see the errors in their writing but also shows ways of improvement. This book benefits many college students along with ESL students as a model for understanding and creating the structure of a great sentence in order to form a grander essay.
Is great for people learning English grammar. Has tips and very good examples, so you now when and how to use periods, commas, semmi colons, etc
For those that are making an ESL course or taking any English class any level, this book have all what you really need and explain in a very detail and easy way ! 100% recommended.
This guide does a nice job, however as a language teacher, I did not agree with several approaches. There are great tables and graphics for understanding verb tenses.
althougt it consist of some take-notes inside, it still quite new as an used text book! Shipment service is sooner than due day, that help my study so much!
