The original 1927 Wentz translation of The Tibetan Book of the Dead stirred much interest, but most non-scholars found it difficult to understand. By stressing the Buddhist concepts and minimizing culturally based images, this "Beginner's Guide" has helped many people to better understand the basic message of this classic text.

Beginner's Guide to the Tibetan Book of the Dead: A Buddhist View of the Afterlife is a great way to be introduced to this text. There is a lot of information out there and it is difficult to know where to begin if you are interested in studying this book. (Additionally, it seems scholars of this work have sat with it for years and years!!! before being prepared to speak about it... So, I like that this beginner's guide comes from the mind of a person who has that background)This shortened version is a fantastic introduction to key concepts of Tibetan buddhism and I feel like I now have a good text from which to expand my knowledge.I would recommend this beginner's guide to anyone who - like myself - is looking to learn more about the Tibetan Book of the Dead. I suppose I will be reading about it for quite a long time from now...

At times this book will cause one to reflect upon their own lives through their own spirit. hope you will enjoy it

exactly what I was looking for

Bought this for my nephew. He seemed to like it

Something about this book just turned me off. I can't put my finger on it. It is definitely a guide for beginners as it notes. I'm rather a newbie to the Buddhist faith tradition, so maybe that explains in part why the book seemed choppy and I didn't finish it. I'll seek another beginner's guide soon.
