For a long time, Gypsy Witch was the closest thing to a Lenormand that you could easily get in the US. They're perfect for beginners because they have meanings and combined meanings printed on the cards, but they work well enough that you'll always enjoy using them. They do have a rustic look that some people don't care for, but I think it gives them an old-timey feel, like something you'd read at a plank table by the light of a kerosene lamp.In spite of being a deck that can be easily read by beginners or kids, they've got the great reputation for accuracy and warn you about possible bad events as well as telling you nice things. It's a realistic, down-to-earth, FUNCTIONAL system, nothing like those modern decks that promise "no bad cards!" and just give you affirmations. It doesn't have the ambiguity that you sometimes get with Tarot, either, it dishes the dirt and it's lots of fun.I'm seeing a lot of people saying here that this deck "isn't for novices", and while I think I understand why people are saying that, I disagree. Yes, the printed meanings are more sensational and dramatic than the traditional interpretations of the same images in European Lenormand, and these cards can and sometimes do predict that you'll get news of someone's death. But with the printed meanings on the cards, they're definitely novice-oriented. I think it's us who have become alarmist and squeamish. When you stop trying to pretend that death doesn't happen, you live a fuller life knowing that it could end any time. You're also more compassionate, knowing that the same is true for others. These cards, and Old Gypsy in the 1940's (which is very similar, right down to the Broken Mirror) were marketed to kids as well as adults, and I've never heard of any harm coming from that.
